The current “Left” position takes the 32% width of the page by default. While this works and looks great on the front page, the Left position doesn’t work great for side menus – it simply takes up too much space.
Leaving the current Left position the way it is, I want to know how I can go about adding a new position, exactly where the Left position is but one that take up less space. Say only about 20% of the total page width.
I’ve tried adding a new position following TomC’s well-written guide but I couldn’t exactly apply manipulating and adding a new Left position.
    Can anyone help me?

Have you tried adjusting the width value within your Template Manager >> Layouts >> Default+Edit settings?

Thanks for replying Tom. This would change the width of the “Left” module position.
I want to keep the current Left position settings the way it is and add a new module position. Say, a “Left2” that will have the same settings except for the width so I can use the original “Left” position for the frontpage, and the new “Left2” position for other pages for side menu.
    Any idea?

    Hi nathanappa,
You could create a new module position, then you assign a module into this new position, in menu assignment section in backend of this new module, you can choose which pages show this module.
You can follow this thread: HOW to CREATE A NEW MODULE POSITION
    Thanks Tom for this tips.

Thanks guys. While the linked guide would help me create additional module position, it appears the left, content, and right positions are written to take either 33, 66 or 100% of the width so introducing an additional position to take place on certain pages is a harder task than I envisioned.
Thanks for your help. Marking as answered regardless to close the thread.
