June 18, 2008 at 5:24 pm #129836Hello,
I want to add a menu at the top of the logo (to span the header). I already know how to create the unique menu — it will include the links to the major affiliates as well as key links like About us.
This would likely be adding a script to the index.php (templates => ja_teline => index.php?) This should span the top of the header. And where would this be inserted in the index.php
Right now, I placed the said links to the major affiliates in the Magazine Menu (but it would mean less space for the actual Sections that could be added in the Magazine Menu.
I already included a variation of this Affiliates menu in the right side, so I know the module I created works.
Thanks.
Cornelio

Hi Menalto,
I did it the old fashion way that I know of:
Hack the index.php in the template, and introduced it manually. I even created two div’s to define the characteristics.
What I was able to do though is for single links though, arranged linearly. What I would be interested with would be more similar to a clone of the “magazine menu” but not of Sections and Categories for the page (that will be covered by the “Magazine menu”) but links menu for supersites (or domains), and their subdomains or multiple sites. For example:
Level A:
Site => Major sections (here), one of them is Regions of the WorldLevel B:
Regions of the World =>
Canada & US
Africa (SubSaharan)
Asia-Pacific & Oceania
Europe
Latin America & Caribbean
Middle East & North AfricaLevel C
Further subdivisions of the continentsLevel D
Countries => this will be the ones that are subdivided into Sections and then Categories for each country (what appears in the actual Magazine menu)
You will see the above outline in the “drop down” menus of vendors, like Fisher, VWR, and many scientific supply corporations. So, it is a standard script. The only thing is how to introduce it to the Joomla environment.I know how to create a new menu and a module for the above as instructed.
However, I do not know how best to do it in multibranching as outlined above. This is best done as a separate script and then then intriduced as “includes” to the respective sites or pages.
I do not know right now how to create the position module that would be equivalent to my manual hack of the index.php (in the template)
I would like to discussed this in more detail privately because it is critical in the “templates design” that I have in mind.
