    Hello,

I love a lot about the JA Magz II template, but one thing that remains a very significant disappointment, bordering on deal breaker is the problems with the AddThis share for content to social media.

I have two problems, one of which is posted separately, so I will only deal with one here:

I can’t get the correct photo to represent the article when I share it, particularly when sharing a video article. I have had three different things happen:

    1. Just a blank box appears in the facebook post where the picture should be. (see attached photo)
    2. Sometimes, where I have replaced the text and photos of the sample data with one of my articles and new photos, it still shows the old photo.
    3. Sometimes, it has shown the photo of a different article I have created.

The one thing I am finding I cannot get it to do is show the actual photo I use. I can’t find anything in the documentation, and I have spent a fair amount of time experimenting. What happens if I delete all the sample photos? What happens if I empty the cache? What happens if I select the same correct photo in the video tab as the thumbnail, and in the images and links tab as the Intro Image and Full Article Image? None of my experiments achieve the correct result.

Can anyone tell me where are the directions for telling the template what photo should be posted when a given article is shared to social media?

    Thank you,

    Hank

    Hi

Facebook uses Open Graph meta tag for picking up image and display. If there is no info for tag / tag presents, it will take a random image from page.
You can use the debug tool from Facebook: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
There are also some third party extensions that helps to add the open graph tags on JED .
A user solved this using a 3rd party extension , please Check below link for more info

    Hi,

Ok, so I’ve purchased the plugin Perfect Link with Article Images on Facebook PRO, which was recommended at the link you recommended. However, I’m not sure how to install it on my website.

Is there a particular file it should be located in? Can you give me some guidance?

    Thank you.

    Hank

    Hello Pankaj,

Ok. I was very frustrated until I found the documentation for the plug in you recommended when I went to Extenstion>Plug Ins>Content-Perfect Link… in the back end.

There, in answer to my question, you can tell the plug in to take the picture from the Full Text image. And it seems to work.

    Thank you!!

    Hi
Open graph meta tags does not part of the template , this is something that is used by facebook to pick the correct data in sharing , you can check default Joomla templates too , there are no Open graph tags that come with a template . Here you can check these how it is used by facebook .
Here is a fix for the FB image share on facebook .
I suggested the 3rd party extension because embed the open graph tags need custom works in the /com_content/article/default.php file .
As u can see using a 3rd party extension users also solved this , 3rd party extension adds open graph tags on your site . You only need to configure the extension with the help of its documentation .

Let me know if you have any confusion in this part .

    Hi,

    Hi,

Ok, I edited my above snarky comments above but repeat here: "I was very frustrated until I found the documentation for the plug in you recommended when I went to Extenstion>Plug Ins>Content-Perfect Linkā€¦ in the back end."

There, in answer to my question, you can tell the plug in to take the picture from the Full Text image. And it seems to work.

And I appreciate the link you just provided. I will study it and try to apply it, because I would like not to have a monthly charge for this to be operational, which is required with the third party subscription.

    Thank you!!

Thank you, Pankaj! I really appreciate it! Can you write the path to where I add the provided code to the "custom code section in template options"?

I asked this question but kept looking and I think I found the pathway. It looks like you installed the code for me. Is the correct pathway: Extensions>Templates>Styles>Custom Code>After ?

    Thank you.
