March 3, 2012 at 10:33 am #174569Hi Guys,
Need some input on best module to use on the home page of my site. If you look at the site http://www.myjakartaconcierge.com you can see I have a very nice image. I want a module that will allow that image to change into another image while the viewer is looking at the site. Maybe I would have 4 or 5 different images that could fade in and out.
I don’t want the images to be linked to anything or any articles they are purely there to make the site look nice.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Since I wrote the post I saw the images on the front page of http://joomla25-templates.joomlart.com/ja_orisite/ i would like my images to be like that without the black bar across the middle.
Jim

March 3, 2012 at 10:40 am #441619Hi Jim,
That (your) template already comes with Slideshow built in. Just configure it to not have links or thumbnails and it will do exactly what you want!
Cheers

March 3, 2012 at 10:48 am #441620Thanks Swissa,
I had a problem with the slideshow and trashed it. I then reinstalled it and it appears on the drop down menu when I click on select type in Module Manager but when I choose JA Slideshow for Joomla 2.5 it says There are no modules installed matching your query?

Have you tried going to Extension Manager and clicking on the Discover tab? If it is there click on install.
After that in module manager just do a search for slideshow and hopefully it will be there. You can then configure it as you wish without a description or control buttons.
Hope that helps!
EDIT- just out of interest are you running Joomla 2.5 or 1.7?

March 3, 2012 at 11:17 am #441625Hey Jim
Vtem has a few good extensions, I use some. Have a look at what they offer.

March 3, 2012 at 11:20 am #441626If it is enabled then you should be able to see it in module manager. You should be able to see it even if it’s not enabled to be honest.
Did you ‘trash’ it last time using extensions manager? If you want to delete you do that in the manage tab too. Then you can do a new install.
Remember to keep doing those backups! 😉1 user says Thank You to swissa for this useful post

March 3, 2012 at 11:32 am #441628Thanks Swissa,
That did the trick. I had trashed it in the module manager not in the manager tab 🙁
I have now reinstalled it.
I am now going to publish it on the home page. Does it make a difference what i set the Menu Item Type for for the HOME PAGE? At the moment I have it set as Single Article?

March 3, 2012 at 11:51 am #441629You are not going to change the menu. Don’t have to touch it even. 🙂
All you need to do is in slideshow (in menu assignment – bottom left) pick the page that you want it to show on – so if you have home and only want on there just click home. 🙂
Set it’s position as slideshow – forgot that! 🙂
If you leave the description box clean obviously you won’t get a description 😀 and further down in the Stage Settings where is says Show Description you set it to no description. Further down still you can set the Control Buttons to No and Navigation Show to No.
Pick heights, widths etc for the show to fit what you want use for the fotos and then set whatever transition you want. Lots to play with there!

March 3, 2012 at 12:02 pm #441632Sorry, brain had a hicup and a reboot there. If you do not want any content on the front page, the best way to do it is with profiles and page assignments in my view.
You make a special profile just for the home page and then just on that page you can turn off the main content block completely. Slideshow will still be there of course, just nothing else.
If you need help to do that just shout. 🙂

March 3, 2012 at 12:05 pm #441633Hi Swissa,
Done all that and published it but it does not appear on the home page. The home page still has the image from the article that Is et up when i made the menu setting from the Front Page as a Single Article? Thats why i am thinking maybe the MENU SETTING for the HOME Page should not be as a SIngle Article.

March 3, 2012 at 12:25 pm #441638I’m sure that there are tutorials on here somewhere Jim to do this. You might want to have a search around for more in-depth ones – I did a post for Tiris to show how to change colours/logs etc for different shopping categories.
So, quickly for you,
go to template manager, profiles tab and click new. Give it a name e.g myfrontpage and then you can set the parameters you want. It looks like everything is greyed out but all you have to do is click on the right box to change anything. Make sure your menu is right @ menu settings /menu type – probably “Main Menu”? and @ advanced settings the theme is what you want.
On this same profile, at the top in Global Settings there is a setting for Hide Main content block which you should set to yes.
Then on the left of the page by Languages & Page Assignments you click in the left and choose the menu item – probably “home”? and in the right you pick myfrontpage. Save etc.
That’s it!! Front page without a content block – all other pages with.
There are some photos in my other post that might help. Not difficult at all and very quick to do! 🙂

March 3, 2012 at 1:24 pm #441645Thanks Swissa,
I did everything you said and the result is correct there is now no content block http://www.myjakartaconcierge.com However, the slideshow does not appear either :(( I have attached the screenshot of the settings I did. I guess i must have missed one step.
