I am currently using Media Temple as a server, and have had a nightmare installing a Joomlart template onto the grid server. The customer support sucked re. anything Joomla – they have a 1-click install for Drupal and WordPress, but the advice from a technician was to visit a particular link. The problem with the link was that the first 10 people writing the various threads were advising folk not to use MT!
Anyway, I would like to know if any of you guys could recommend a reasonable value server/host package that involves good Joomla support and a relatively easy install of a template?
Cheers!

Not sure what you mean here as you don’t describe what your problem is. What you say could apply to every web host I know of.
I have 40 sites on MT Grid Server and have had absolutely zero issues with either their service or support. I’m in Australia and always get someone capable to answer at any time. Yes they operate a different service to other web hosts via GS but they state this clearly up front in doing so.
MT are not dedicated Joomla hosts and if you wish to have a specialist Joomla host then why not check out this thread and the link within it
So “what was/is the actual problem” that MT is causing you?
Are you using the default Joomla install process for the template?December 21, 2008 at 5:59 am #283677Thanks guys. MT is a very good server, but they dropped the ball regarding Joomla (IMO), they support one click Drupal and WordPress installations, but not Joomla. Anyway, I decided to take Jays advice and give Bluehost a go. So far, so good, but I do miss MT’s interface and am sad that we had to part company.
Thanks again for your input.

December 22, 2008 at 5:04 am #283747gtrew I take it what you were looking for but still haven’t really stated is you wanted a 1 click install for Joomla?
Before you sign up with any web host ask the questions. If they don’t state something on their site ask … it is that simple.
Bagging a host for not delivering something that you wanted but never asked for is not a nice way to go.
For those using this thread … MT does host Joomla it just doesn’t do one click installs
December 22, 2008 at 5:55 am #283749yerg, I have been with MT for 2 years and have been relatively happy with them. In those days Drupal and WP were the rage. I then discovered Joomla just few weeks ago and was very interested in updating my website by customizing a JA template. I’m a graphic designer who isn’t that confident with code & all things server, but I’m keen to learn. I asked MT time and time again to help, and it wasn’t a good experience for me. I then installed a JA template (or tried to) on MT and got into all kinds of trouble. I asked for help, and once again MT responded by sending me the same link (which many threads advised Joomla folk to stay away from MT). You have obviously had a good experience with MT. Jolly hockey sticks to you. I didn’t, but that doesn’t mean that MT aren’t any good. I still have an account with them, I just tried another server for some Joomla installations, and it was all straight forward stuff and the customer service was excellent. Anyway, I do appreciate your input, but there’s no need for us to get into some kind of handbags at dawn duel over the issue 🙂 Have a great Christmas.
December 22, 2008 at 6:09 am #283750Whoops – what I should also have said, was that I should have posted a question like “Are there any other folk who use MT as a server, and, if so, what has been your experience of them to date re. all-things Joomla? Please excuse my inexperience of using forums like this. This is all one big learning experience for me.
All the best!

December 22, 2008 at 7:10 am #283752gtrew glad you have clarified the issue … no need for handbags at dawn 😉
Still unsure as to why you had problems installing a template … hence my seeking to clarify.
I have a number of clients using MT and I was seeking to find out what the issue was that you faced and hopefully circumvent any issues they may face.

Agree with you, I recommend bluehost as well, but if you want more detail for every hosting included the ranking, go for http://thehostingchart.com. The website reviews all the hosting with expert advices. 🙂

December 24, 2008 at 4:27 pm #283961I use lunarpages and have had no issues with them for over a year now.
They do offer a joomla install via fantastico but personally I never recommend anyone using the install scripts. You will find that many fantastico 1 click installs do not keep up with the current versions in a timely manner. Joomla updated versions normally always have some type of security patches involved so it’s good to keep yourself up to date. Doing a self install is quite a simple matter and a value to learn. You should also look into the backup utility Joomlapack . Then you can easily move your site from server to server, or easily perform a reinstall if something goes wrong.

December 26, 2008 at 11:53 pm #284083Great Joomla hosting and great price is Rochen. I just moved from the grid server myself and the difference in load time is remarkable. My regular sites where ok on the grid server but not my database sites. If your a designer that uses templates, most now have “quick-intall that installs Joomla and the template together, so most of the time you don’t need fantastico or other One-Click installs. But if you do, Rochen does indeed have it.
They also have re-seller hosting, so if you have many domains to host it’s flexible. Good luck! 😀 -
