June 15, 2008 at 7:59 pm #129713Hello,
Has anyone used the Ajax Shoutbox before?
It can be uploaded, and published but once it is published, it causes the JA Tabs to disappear — it does not matter where it is placed.
I can place it in a special page, to circumvent this, but I want to place it in the Home page.
Any ideas what is causing the incompatibility and possible solution?
Thanks.
Cornelio
Note: Tested in Joomla 1.0x – Teline II

June 15, 2008 at 10:53 pm #253777Hi cgc0202
I am by no means an expert at this but I would have to say that the ajax script is conficting with the mootools script. Maybe you can find a mootools shoutbox?
Or I seem to remember reading something about setting the order of the loading of scripts on a page. They are probably both trying to load at the same time. Maybe you could do a google on that.
Just my 2 cents.cgc0202 Friendcgc0202

I did look at the other Shoutbox available from the Joomla extensions, I will have to do a lot of revisions to make them compatible with the layout of the templates I use.
I use the Ajax Shoutbox because it worked perfectly with the previous JA Teline (with Joomla 1.0.12. That has a JA MultiTabs too, so I thought it will work with JA Teline II.
It is not compatible with the Gavick templates either — it destroys the layout completely, but the Gavick modules do not disappear
I had to do a work around create a separate page for the Shout Box — there is a group that I am helping and the Shout Box is the most popular. The Ajax Shout Box is very fast, even better than standard chat software. so the separate ShoutBox page serves as their Chatroom.
I like the simplicity of the Ajax Shoutbox, but I may give up on it soon because the guy who developed it has not done any further work on it since 2006(?), so it is not compatible with Joomla 1.5x. The Shout Box is one reason why I had to use Joomla 1.0x for many websites.

June 15, 2008 at 11:15 pm #253782Hi Cornelio,
How about trying one of the other tabs modules on the Joomla.org extension site? I am not sure but the “tabs & slides module is probably updated for J1.5 and I am sure there are others in the extensions directory. BTW I have tried tabs & slides and it works well in J 1.0
If one of the other tabs modules work with your ajax shoutbox then you are good to go.
Good luck.instantinlaw Friendinstantinlaw

Oddly, it is just the new JA MultiTab in the Joomla 1.0.15-Teline II. The same shoutbox worked with my older sites — Joomla 1.0.12 (and I updated them up to 1.0.14 I think). No problem at all.
Note that all the other modules in the Joomla 1.0.15-Teline II did not seem to be affected.
I came back to using the JA Teline II actually because it is not working with. I will try to revisit this again later.

It does not seem to cause the Gavick Tabs to disappear, with their News template that I use, it just messed up the multi-column layout. So, I think the latter is more a “div” issue — more like missing a “TD” or “TR” when you use tables in layouting — rather than incompatibility.

June 16, 2008 at 1:04 pm #253895You may be right Cornelio, but I still think it’s a script ordering/conflicting issue.
This template also has the highslide script embedded. That may be the script that is causing the problem if your ajax script worked on Teline I and not on Teline II.
Anyway, let us know if one of the other tabs modules fixes the problem. -
