May 5, 2009 at 7:36 am #140899Hi Support and Mods
I’ve got a really annoying problem with JA News Frontpage.
I’ve recently changed from the standard JA news configuration as per the demo (1 main news, 3 featured news) to a rotating 4 articles using headline_fp.php
Most of the time when we create a new article and nominate this to front page position and publish, the text disappears (although it is there if I click on ‘Read More’).
However, if I then move the article from front page, into normal JA News, the text is fine:
I would estimate this is happening about 50% of the time. I’ve checked the HTML and there is nothing in there that shouldn’t be. We’ve even recreated the article from the beginning on certain occasions and it still doesn’t work.
I’ve supplied FTP and SuperAdmin details for my site if you can take a look and see what the problem is.
Many Thanks

May 7, 2009 at 5:41 am #303874Thanks Everyone.
I had to move the Bulgaria Property Owners article back to normal JA news due to the problem. I didn’t like to leave it up there with no text!
To try and reproduce the problem, I copied the HTML of the problem article on the main site, and created a new article with the same code on our test site and published to front page.
Once again, same problem, no text:
I had some friends using different OS and Browsers check it, same problem. Missing text.
You can check the problem for yourself here:
http://www.joomla.questbg.comI’ve checked the code and there’s nothing obvious there. Main problem is, this is totally random.
JA Staff: same ftp details and SuperAdmin details on this test site as the main site.
Many Thanks

May 7, 2009 at 7:41 am #303891I only see this as the code for the empty news item:
<div class="ja-newscontent">
<h4 class="jazin-title"><a href="/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=428:bulgaria-property-owners-rentals&catid=78:finance&Itemid=178" class="ja-newstitle" title="Bulgaria Property Owners: Rentals">Bulgaria Property Owners: Rentals</a></h4><img src="/images/resized/images/stories/poolsandhottubs/coupledrinkspool_200_200.gif" alt="Bulgaria Property Owners: Rentals" align="left" /> </div>
</div>So yeah, it doesn’t show text… could you go in the article for Bulgaria property owners, open the code or HTML for that article and copy everything in there on this forum? there might be a problem there. But it looks as if you just dont have any published text.

May 7, 2009 at 8:54 am #303901Hi bandbreed
Wow … that’s really weird.
I just opened the Article in Admin and clicked on the HTML tab, this is how it looks:
Also, and another really weird thing, if you click through to the article, all the text comes back again … which would lead me to believe that the problem is in the Module, not the articles?
This is driving me crazy right now!
Thanks again

May 18, 2009 at 6:05 am #304952Hi Folks
I have a premium support ticket open on this one but also thought I would update here with a bit more information in case anybody can suggest anything!
Today we published our main news story as usual into JA News Frontpage. Once again the article appears to have no text, however clicking through to the article and the text reappears.
I copied the code of the article from the live site and recreated it on our test site here:
http://www.joomla.questbg.comAgain, the same problem. If you click on the URL above you will see that we now have 2 our of 4 articles published in JA News Frontpage which appear to have no text. Clicking through reveals the text is fine.
I then decided to do a bit of further investigation in order to find any kind of workaround. I changed the settings of JA News Frontpage module on the above test site from headline_fp.php back to default_fp.php to see what happened to the two problem articles.
Now a very strange thing. If one of the problem articles with missing text is placed in position 1 in FP Manager (Featured Article), the text is missing again:
However, if I then move it from position 1 to any of the 3 ‘normal frontpage news’ positions, the text reappears:
Therefore, the problem only appears to happen when articles are published as ‘featured’ or position 1.
If anybody has any ideas whatsoever, I’d be extremely grateful. Not being able to publish a main ‘featured’ article or use ‘headline’ is becoming a real pain as you can imagine!
Many Thanks

May 18, 2009 at 9:40 am #304961Hi Chris, I’ve fixed this on your test site.
The problem was that the ‘Read More’ link was being placed too early in the article.
It seems that the read more must go somewhere after your specified number of characters (120 on the test site.)
