When I work in Control Panel (as Administrator) and try to enter a Content Item or change the settings, the Login screen pops up often and I lose all the changes I made before I can Save them. I noticed that when I make changes quickly, I am able to save them. But when I enter a new content (that takes more time) and try to save it, the Login shows. After I log in, I am taken back to the Control Panel screen. When I go back to the New Content area, my entry is gone and I have to do it over and over again. One way to go around it is to do it once, copy the entry, and then Login, Paste the entry quickly and save it in small steps. But this is not how it should be, I guess? Is there a way to overwrite some settings, so that I can remain logged in for the entire time of the session (as Administrator), until I physically log out?

Please help, I am trying to figure things out from the Joomla Junior Kindergarten class.

It sounds to me like you are logging in as administrator to http://www.yoursite.com and that your website is actually located at yoursite.com or maybe your still logging into a temporary IP address that you received when opening a new hosting account. Make sure you are logging into the account that your website actually resides at. You can find this in the Global Configuration under the Server Tab and look at the Live Site setting.

My host is: my_host.com. They do support Joomla.
Since I run two other domains and 2 subdomains at this account, each of the websites resides in a separate folder under the same account.

I created a new folder: /new_folder for the new website and this is where I am building the Joomla – JA Teline site. I have not pointed the domain name to this folder yet, my old website is still running on this domain name.

The live site setting in the Global Configuration reads:

    http://my_account.my_host.com/new_folder .

This is where I uploaded Joomla, the templates, etc.

I still experience this problem. Can’t enter or edit anything without the session expiring after about 10 seconnds (active or inactive), even though the Admin session time is set to 3600 seconds. If I make changes quickly and hit the save button within the first 10 seconds, the changes are saved. Otherwise, when I try to save a more time-consuming entry or change, it takes me back to the admin login screen without saving anything. Sometimes, it takes me back to the admin login several times, before loading the Control Panel.

If I don’t solve this problem, my entire Joomla site will be useless – I will not be able to enter any content items.

I really desperately need help on this. Thank you for your time answering my questions.

bigrk is actually referring to this. You might be logging in at http://www.yoursite.com/administrator instead of yoursite.com/administrator (without the www.)

I found an unexpected solution here:

    http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,107557.0.html.

Here is what has caused my problem:

Instead of installing automatically theJoomla v.1.0.0 available at my host’s server, I uploaded manually the Joomla v.1.0.12 Stable (unzipped).

There was no path to save the sessions. I followed the steps indicated here:
    http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,50977.msg274052.html#msg274052

    and… IT IS WORKING NOW!

Not sure if it was the best solution, or just a way around the problem but I am happy, I can finally work in the Control Panel without getting a heart attack!:D
