August 25, 2011 at 8:13 pm #408540Hi icbl,
Our team is working hard to keep up and upgrade our templates, however there is no ETA yet for JA Social . Keep looking at our blogs and you will get noticed.
Please take a look here if you already haven’t seen this -> http://www.joomlart.com/updates/joomla-templates/8-more-templates-updated-released-for-joomla-17

August 25, 2011 at 8:28 pm #408541Hi Manos,
I checking everyday since months. We have waited for 1.6 very long time with acceptable reasons but now I just hopping to not experincing same thing as there is no plug in incompability. I think such a popular template deserving little more priority.

August 25, 2011 at 8:32 pm #408542Hi,
If you plan to develop your site based on JA Social i can tell you this, i have tested JA Social for J.1.6.x on my loclhost and upgraded to J.1.7. and so far it works fine, i haven’t seen any problems! And.. with JA Extension Manager you will be able to upgrade much more easy when JA Social 1.7.x comes out!
Remember you can use JA T3 plugin for J1.7.x 😉

August 25, 2011 at 9:08 pm #408552Not really, you just use the JA Extension manager to update the JAT3 plugin and update Joomla as per the instructions on the Joomla.org documation. Please make 100% sure that you have a backup of your entire site (both the database and the files) before you start so if you do run into trouble you can quickly restore. Personally I would use Akeeba Backup to take a copy of my live site to my local host (I run WAMP for this) and then do the upgrade and testing on my local machine. If all goes well then I would once again use akeeba to restore my upgraded site to my host.
I have not tried JA Social myself with J1.7 so I will have to take pascm’s word for it that it works as expected. Please be aware though that we cannot support you on any problems you have running the J1.6 version on J1.7. When the J1.7 version is available we will provide full support for that.

August 25, 2011 at 9:25 pm #408559Actually IMHO you should ask yourself if you should use the short term releases of Joomla rather than await for the LTS releases. J1.5 is Long Term Support with the next LTS being J1.8. J1.6 and J1.7 are only going to be supported for 6 months at a time so all users who choose to use these releases will face this problem every 6 months.
Having said that I am sure that JA Social will be upgraded soon. The transition from J1.6 to J1.7 is nowhere near the amount of work goning from J1.5 to J1.6 was. In addition JomSocial is being upgraded a lot faster so JA are not tied by that.

August 25, 2011 at 11:31 pm #408590I kept postponing my final deployment since 1.6, so I am not going to upgrade anything. I just wanna deploy the site and be prepared for the 1.8! At the moment 1.6 template have multiple issues which I cannot find answer either here or at the joomla forums.
I also going to buy a couple of plug ins which they have compatible with 1.6 or 1.7 only. Now I clearly now with sensible way that I have to use 1.7 or working condition of 1.6! -
