Hi Guys
First of all great template and thanks for reading this. I have watched JA guide to installing langues (the guy was very fast) but i have installed Arabic language pack on my site and added a new content language arabic and used the correct tags i think.
The module (language switcher shows the pre-text) but no flags. Do i need to duplicate all the menu items but this time change the title to the Arabic translation and make sure the language is arabic in the menu item settings? I have read some guides but i am getting a bit confused if i am missing some steps.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks

June 8, 2014 at 3:24 pm #538223Hi
I created a new menu >> Arabic , assigned to it the Home menu item , actually it is unpublished , publishing it you can see the multilanguage module showing the /ar option to your website,
So you can continue to make new arabic menu items and assign them to the correct ( Ar) pages of your menu
June 8, 2014 at 4:21 pm #538228Hi Pavit
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and for your time in looking at my website. So for future reference, when a new language is required, a new menu is also required with the new items within.
Regarding the actual translation, would i have to write the arabic articles myself or will the langauge pack translate it? The arabic menu you have created does not show up on the arabic /ar and the articles are in english. Do i have to duplicate modules – for example the masshead for contact us page, do i have to create another one but select arabic language?
Sorry to be confusing, i have never dealt with language packs.
Kind Regards and many thanks for your help

Yes you need to create content in Arabic language

The arabic menu you have created does not show up on the arabic /ar and the articles are in english.

The Home item in the Arabic menu is unpublished – you need to publish it and assign to it for example an Article written in Arabic.

for example the masshead for contact us page, do i have to create another one but select arabic language?

Yes you should create a new module and assign it to the Arabic menu item page from backend – page assignment.

June 16, 2014 at 10:31 am #539035Hi Guys,
Thank you for the lesson above.
Just a quick message, in order to have the articles and everything in Arabic, i would need to ensure that my database is utf-8? so it can display/save articles in foreign characters as currently when i save anything the title goes (“?????”)
I will back up my database, is it an straight forward job to convert it to UTF-8 within myPHPadmin?

Not so difficult, you can change collation type from general settings in your phpmyadmin control panel

June 16, 2014 at 4:25 pm #539080Hi Pavit
Thank you for your quick response. It is nice to receive the assurance from the members on this forum. I will back up my database first and then carry out the needed collation type.
Many Thanks, Kind Regards
