I’m wondering if there are any front end differences between the nex template for 1.5 and 2.5.
I am developing a site on my local server and it seems to be really slow to load compared to other 1.5 sites I have worked on in the past.
Obviously I would prefer to work with “new and shiny” 2.5 instead of reverting to the almost dead 1.5 however if a site on 1.5 would be faster and have more extension options (still waiting for JA Comments Component for for 2.5) I might have to revert back.
Suggestions?

J2.5 is certainly faster. Thee are a few css changes and a lot of other improvements but in all essence the templates are exactly the same.
As for JA Comment the devs will be releasing that after JA Voice both of which are being worked upon but still have a bit of work to go.

Can you give me a guess about what kind of timeline you are talking about for the JA comments? Ballpark?

Hard to say as the dev team are in Vietnam and I just help out from the UK in my spare time. From what I understand it should be in the next few weeks max but I cannot promise as you never know what bugs they may run into etc. The devs need a bit of a breather I think. They have since the release of J2.5 had to update over 30 templates so far plus over 50 plugins, modules and components. They have done a fantastic job IMHO but there is still a lot of work to be done. I too am awaiting JA Comment, it is one of the best comment components out there.

I agree on all points – I am quite impressed with how quickly the templates were updated. I guess since they were so fast I’m a little spoiled! I will be waiting semi-patiently!
