Installation Problem

I freshly installed Joomla 1.5
I downloaded and installed template and modules
When I go to templates I made Barite my default template
But . . the template does not work

When I try to click on the template it gives me the following error . . .

DetailsName: JA_Barite
Description: JA Barite – New Joomla! 1.5 Portal presentation
Menu AssignmentMenus: Cannot assign Default Template

ParametersThe Parameter-File /templates/ja_barite/params.ini is Writable!
Fatal error: Cannot access empty property in /home/elawreso/public_html/joomlafinal/libraries/joomla/registry/registry.php on line 146

Can anyone assist?
