I dont think my host (hostgator) has mod rewrite working since I added this code to the .htaccess file:

    RewriteEngine On
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    Redirect /google.html http://www.google.com

I will not redirect to http://www.google.com when I add “/google.html” to the end of my url.

    Anyone else have this issue?

Also, what other advantage does this option have besides removing “index.php” from the url?

    Hi jimang29,

You can ask your provider to check and confirm is your host has mod_rewrite enabled, and also ask them for an example as well.
Normally url writing is used to produce short and search engine friendly urls, it could also hide the exact script file.

    Hung,

Thanks for the reply, I was informed by my provider (hostgator) that they have mod_rewrite enables but the reason why its not working is because I have a temporary url for now (in form of an ip address not www.). I hope this is the case.
