Well, I gave it a try and while it got rid of all the gray, there just isn’t any separation between my modules, which is the reason I chose this template.

I’m going to keep playing with it but I’m inclined to agree with you that if I concentrate on making the home page and other important pages of the site aligned properly then that’s the major part of the battle.

On internal pages where I just can’t control the dynamic content, I agree that it’ll be forgiven. I doubt people will leave all aghast at a few inches of gray between the sidebars and the bottom.

That doesn’t mean I won’t keep searching for what I want, lol, but I suppose it will save me time and stress if I just accept what can’t/won’t be done by the template design.

I’ll hope for a solution but I think the above advice is good.

Thank you again and I’ll certainly post back if I crack the case…and by all means, if someone else cracks it, let me know! πŸ™‚

Success! While I had to have a table set up for the left, center and right columns, it was by far the easiest and most stable way of forcing equal heights. To me, a few more tables is a small price to pay to get this look…and it’s a look this template should have had without me having to monkey around with it, lol.

Each <td> tag in these tables was set with a background that matches the bottom of the Rutile modules. Then, the bottom-most modules of the columns are simply given a special module class suffix (we named the suffix “_bottom”) that takes the top portion of the default style but not the bottom portion. This gives the illusion that the last module is actually stretching.

It works on the home page and all internal pages flawlessly. Even if my center module extends WAYYYYY down, the left and right sidebars fill and vertically align perfectly. Likewise if my center area isn’t as long as the sidebars (which happens on our contact form thank you page) the center module will extend all the way down to meet the sidebars.

    In short, no gray voids!

I’m hesitant to just post what I did because I made some custom tweaks to the template.css and index files. I don’t want to be responsible for breaking anyone’s site or having to provide “support” should their conversion not go as smoothly. But, if the interest is there, I’ll try to draft what I did to at least give some insight if the above isn’t enough of a head start.

To have Joomlart say it can’t be done and to just make concessions wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear. Fortunately, with a little creativity, it can be accomplished!

NIce to hear you got it working. Tables are unfortunatly not an option for me, I am a “clean and tableless” design type πŸ™‚

Well, will probably abandon this template, hopefuly the next one will enable better customization.

Well, I figured you can’t escape having some tables in Joomla anyhow, so what’s 3 more to get the look I want. πŸ™‚ But I agree, I’m a css-oriented type as well, but this template just looks too perfect for our needs to give it up. I’ll post our site once it’s done but we have another week to go.

gzellers can you please post a picture on your site with the modified template. I have the same problem with my site, it looks very bad when left, right and center columns does not have the same height.

How can I fix this ?

    Thanks for your help.

Hello, here is a link to a resized screenshot of the end result. As you can see, the left, center, and right sidebars now go flush to the footer area no matter how much text is in any of them. It works on every page and there is no more guessing or gray voids.

To list everything I did would be difficult because I was tweaking the CSS and index file on and off in what turned out to be a trial and error circus.

I can do my best to explain how it was achieved but I need to first focus on getting the site launched, which will be this coming week. Right now, it’s still in staging but after a few more pages are added, it’s ready to hit cyberspace. πŸ™‚

wow, that looks perfect gzellers ! ThatΒ΄s exactly what I want on my site. This is how the template should have looked like from the start.

I understand that you have work to do on your site and that you don’t have time to explain the changes in CSS and index files but it is possible to get a copy of your files. What I want to do is compare them with the original files and try to make the changes that is necessary.

The only options I have is to change the template to look like yours or start all over and use another template. Use to original template without changes is not an option for me, it looks to bad.

    Thanks for your help,

Hello, let me get this wrapped up and I’ll absolutely do my best to help as I think there are LOTS of people who would prefer that the template be flush to the bottom.

I think the ugly gray gaps should have been addressed before it was released but at least we know it can be done. πŸ™‚ I know that the index file and CSS file were changed, but you’ll need to compare them to figure it out from the base install (although I will try to do this for you once I launch the site). As well, I have to make sure that the bottom most module on the left and right use a suffix of _bottom (which was created separately).

If you like the template, I’d just stick with it for a week until I can try and help out on it. No sense abandoning it yet because I think any template you choose in replacement will have its own issues anyhow. πŸ™‚

Hello! OK, my site is in soft-launch mode but it’s up and running. Feel free to view the site but please don’t establish an account unless you’re actually interested in maternity and baby related topics.

You obviously don’t need an account to tour it so take a look and see how my sidebars go flush to the bottom on each page. I am going to try and retrace my steps as best I can and hope to post after the weekend. As mentioned above, this is the result of a lot of trial and error so bear with me as I try and recharge my memory.

Since Joomlart has obviously chosen to completely ignore the request from the masses, I’m hoping I can at least get you close to point B. πŸ™‚ At the bare minimum, if this is resolved, they could at least chime in with a thank you.

You can see the site at http://www.wombtobloom.com and I’ll try to get something posted here on Monday about how the ugly gray voids were eliminated.
