There are many instances when it is good to have some of the features, for example, this “submodule” of the JA News2:

    http://static.joomlart.com/images/templates/ja_teline_iii/userguides/JA_News2_Module/ja_mod_news_demo.png

    in the backend.

Obviously, the above “submodule” should not be replicated itself in the JA News Module. Instead, what should be done would be to integrate some features that will dictate the features and parameters regulating the operation, appearance, and layout of the above submodule of the JA News2 when it appears in the FrontEnd.

    A separate thread:

Bug: Section Categories don’t order Correctly
    http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/bug-section-categories-dont-order-correctly/

outlines a problem (bug) related to this feature of the JA News2 module that needed to be addressed by Joomlart. Some other features and considerations are outlined below.

In actual websites for example, the actual number of categories in each section would be variable. Some sections may have a few categories, while others may have many categories.

Layout Aesthetics. In my history site, for example, one section has more than 60 categories, while some have less than a dozen. Thus, while the visitor may have option to select, the categories to appear in the FrontEnd, the webmaster must also have option to impose a minimum and maximum number of categories to show per section — for aesthetic purposes.

Why the need for minimum/maximum categories. In theory, a visitor may opt to show none, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. categories for each section. Because of the way the JA News2 module, unless there are no categories are show, the result will be a very ugly layout.

Dealing with too many categories. As indicated above, there is no way that all 60 categories in the history site can be prresented in the Homepage. There must be a backend feature to indicate that are other categories not shown, to alert a visitor in the FrontEnd that such categories are existent.

I have a different solution to the above, especially the third case. Based on the complexity of some of my sites, I may end up using the previous JA News used in Teline II for the Homepage, and instead use the JA News2 module, as “Highlight News” module for Section and Category Pages — more likely placed at the bottom rather than in the “left/right” position. I will present this idea as a separate “revision” and I hope Joomlart would be more receptive to it.

N.B. This is a revision of a suggestion, as a response to the JA News2 installation sticky. However, it seemed to have been burried by responses seeking clarifications of the features and installation of JA News itself. I will delete the post there, in keeping with “one issue – one thread”, once there is a “resolution” of this thread.

Cornelio, as a ‘revision of a suggestion‘ is there any need to add the Problem prefix and click the “Require JA staff Attention” button (as you seem to do with all threads) ?

These threads are drawing support away from people who actually need it. By all means post your thoughts and suggestions but please try not to flood the forum. Of the 20 threads on the Teline front page at the moment, 7 are yours.

I know I asked you to start separate threads for each topic but if you could keep the suggestions and observations to one thread I, and the other mods, would appreciate it. 😉

    Scotty,

If you examine the operation of JA News2 more closely, the absence of this feature in the Backend does cause problems for the administrator. I am spending quite a lot of time finding ways to circumvent these problems. When I find a solution to a problem, I post the feature in my Sandbox pages. I did this for Teline II, and now Teline III.

Oh no — I have more in the pipeline, as I investigate each feature.:) I am pacing myself actually. I have not posted many of my observations yet.:)

In all seriousness, this is the time to offer suggestions, related to problems in features while a template is still new.

You will find also that I only offer suggestions in template Forums that I am actually using and have some familiarity with. For this reason, most of my postings have been restricted mostly (but not exclusively) to the Teline series template forums.

I spend quite a bit of time actually analyzing these things because I hope Joomlart considers them and improve specific features associated with a template. I do not know scripting like others do, but an area where I can help would be to share

This is what I and others have done during the early stages of the Teline II template. I hope I can help in the same way again to improve Teline III. My main goal is to influence Joomlart in the templates that I am likely to use.

More than likely my original threads and postings will taper off again, after I thought Teline III is stable enough. After that, I usually try to help other new users, if I know how to solve a problem.

    Cornelio
