June 3, 2008 at 11:09 pm #129264I have decided that I would like to use Magazine/Catalog from jxtended for my Teline II-based site. However, the modules/plugin that come included with Teline II only support the Core Joomla com_content component.
I don’t of any others on this forum that also are using Magazine/Catalog from jxtended but if you are interested in helping feel free, otherwise I will try to post my work here for others to use.
If you haven’t heard of jxtended before I’d take a look at their products. What I like the most (when compared to iJoomla) is that the software is developed by 4 Core Joomla Developers and their components are licensed under the GPL (so you can use them on as many sites as you need).
Their components are very versatile and have a lot of power (unlimited categories/subcategories, custom attributes and taxonomy).
Pretty soon (around July) they’ll also have an ACL system built-in allowing for you to create groups and assign certain categories/privileges to certain users/groups. I’m looking forward to that too :-).

June 4, 2008 at 4:34 am #251833I see iJoomla on here too and while not in the same light as I may have written my above post, I just wanted to give at least a small introduction (since as I mentioned I didn’t even know about jxtended a few weeks ago). Personally, I’m pretty used to the common names that we see in Joomlaland already (JA, RocketTheme, Phil Taylor, iJoomla, etc.) and sometimes I’m not willing to go out and investigate a new company because the name doesn’t ring a bell, but in this case I was happy I did and I’m thinking a few others might benefit from having that introduction rather than just coming to read this post and think, “Well, I’ve never heard of jxtended so it’s probably not any good…”.
I would understand the concern if I was talking about RocketTheme, Yootheme, Gavick Pro, etc. products but in this case it’s a company that does not even compete with Joomlart on a product level, but in any case they are the producers of products that could be used together with Joomlart templates (and especially Teline II in the case of their Magazine component).
And also, the message was a post, not a signature and I would not be adding the link to my signature or be spamming the boards with posts related to jxtended. It is just one message and if I have the time to make my modifications for Teline II I will add them to this thread so that others may use them in conjunction with the jxtended components.
I am only a customer of jxtended (and a recent one at that) and have no power in their company so the comments/praise I have given them can only be attributed to me and no one else.
Thanks for the warning though.

June 4, 2008 at 5:15 am #251836I did not want it to seem that I was attacking you over this post, and I probably didn’t do a very good job at doing that. Sorry. :-[
I didn’t notice that you have been a member since 2006. I only noticed your post count and thought you were new here.
Knowing that you have been here for quite some time and also knowing that your previous posts were not promotional in nature, I realize that you were only trying to help out.
I don’t think you are a spammer, but please watch your wording because if I precieved a product plug out of your post others might as well.
Peace. 🙂

Hi omarram,
I will buy their product if they can make it work with the JA Teline II or GavickPro News Portal. I looked at their Demo briefly, and it is nowhere near as attractive. Since I am not a programmer, what I would like to see is for these scripts to work seamlessly with the aforementioned templates. So far, I have not seen that happen with iJoomla, or quite tedious at least with the original JA Teline. So, I am glad Joomlart came up with JA Teline II, still a long way to having the standard features or format of the more advanced professional online news or magazines but it is a very good start — a worthy heir apparent to the orignal JA Teline.
If you are in constant correspondence with them, please ask them to buy both the JA Teline II and the Gavick Pro News Portal. JA Teline II is much more advance but there are some modules in Gavick Pro that are more versatile, as far as layoutting is concerned.
Indeed, I want multilayered sections- categories and subcategories. Any publication dealing with taxonomy of living systems would require that.
And, like you, I am also concerned about ACL.

Please be careful with your posts.</blockquote>Joomlart should not feel so threatened about the discussions in regard other programs that extends the capabilities of the Joomlart templates. In fact, it was iJoomla that directed me to Joomlart because iJoomla does not do templates, per se. They extend the features of the templates.
I was the one who first posted on my first day here, about potential collaboration between Joomlart and iJoomla when I first came aboard on 3 August 2007. iJoomla was decent enough to inform their customers when asked about the best templates around.
I am glad that Joomlart has come up with JA Teline II, quite a very advanced template compared to those offered by other template companies, but it may be sometime before the JA Teline series will have the features offered by magazine softwares.
As such, they are not in competition with each other. There is no false advertising. More than likely, customers like omarran, and myself, as well as others just want to get the best of what is already a good product.
The Joomlart staff deserves to be proud for what they have done with the JA Teline II, and I hope accelerate its evolution. At the same time, no staff or moderator should feel threatened by the mention of other features found in other companies.
In fact, they should welcome such introduction and see if they could improve on the innovations of others.
