    Unfortunately!
IMO there aren’t that many high-tech free templates available for Magento. This website sure has some fancy commercial templates. I’ve seen other good templates but most cost around $140. :-[

It sure would be nice if there was an option to ‘test’ the templates before buying them. Sort of a ‘shareware’ idea. From a commercial point of view interesting, from a technical point of view horrible because you know people are going to take advantage of it and never pay.

Sorry I’ m a newbie but what is a magento template? Is it a specific type of template for Joomla only/?

Yes I agree with you, It would be nice to have a preview window pop up, like in wordpress when you want to preview the template with all your setting “on”.

But then again, to spend $140.00 is alot better than $5000 for a paid cart set up…right?

Magento is an ecommerce system on its own. Much like osCommerce, phpShop, CubeCart etc. So it is not Joomla or even related to Joomla.

Actually, I was thinking one step further. It would be nice to be able to actually install the template and use it for say two weeks or something and only then, If you like it, pay for it. That is the idea behind shareware.
However, I realize that with templates it is not possible to make to stop it from displaying or functioning. Since everything is php/html/xml code it would be easy to hack and use the template illegally free forever.

@zaodao – I would have to say that the local store template is probably the best example you have provide. Really nice thank you. 😀

Wow — this thread finally received some replies HaH. Been a long time since I checked. I ended up going with the free magneto classic theme. Was fairly easy to do some basic color changes and minor editing.

The problem is, there are not enough Magento Theme makers, and only one “club” that I know of – right here at JoomlART. As such, the theme makers that are out there are basically operating on the “supply & demand” model – hence the higher prices. I AM starting to see one or two theme makers offering their themes for a bit lower ($50-$89) range -though, unfortunately, their “themes” seem little more than some basic level modification of the popular “Modern Theme.”

There is a FANTASTIC tutorial series (FREE) on how to build a Magento theme from start-to-finish that I have found monumentally helpful and educational —> http://developer.practicalecommerce.com/articles/1540-Building-a-Magento-Theme-Start-to-Finish-Part-One-Prolegomena
