For a standalone gallery, I have many many Coppermine photogalleries (CPG) installed. Very well documented and the Open Source Group supporting it is very active. There are plugins or apps created there that could be very useful, like CPMFetch.by Vuud, and the one by Stramm to enhance the functionality of CPG.

Unlike some of the manuals here in Joomlart, the installation and update of CPG is well documented, and attempted to answer almost all possible question that you might ask.

I have to caution you though, but like Joomla, CPG like Joomla had to be upgraded several times a year in an attempt to deal with security issues. because of many sinister people out there trying to mess up your site.

One thing I use CPG for is a fast method of optimizing my images — to reduce the diskspace usage from 4-20 fold. Optimizing your images is needed to improve upload time of your Joomla site.

Just be careful when you ask questions though, unlike here in Joomlart, you get deductions when you do not do your assignment (not doing Search) before you ask a question, or you post irrelevant. And, never never send any of the Admins and Moderators any PM or email.

One last thing, if you are concerned about “Copyright by Coppermine”, just like here in Joomlart, then CPG is not for you. CPG is open source and free and they expect you to retain the copyright in the frontend.

Those are the pros and cons.

We have side discussions about other slideshows that could be made page specific in Joomla, in quite a number of threads in Teline II. For example, someone has found a way to convert the Highslide module to capture images from their other sites. There are several modules here in Joomlart that may be used as slideshows or page specific galleries.

Read for example from post #9 up for some ideas of a few members (forget the posts before that)

to gain some ideas on how images may be used more effectively in your site.
