When you click on a news item from the front page, you really have not left the home page. (The home button is still highlighted when a news item is clicked).
If you want the bread crumb trail to change when a news article is clicked, you will have to add a menu item pointing to the news articles section. Then when a article is clicked the path would be something like Home > News > Welcome to our company.
I am sure there is a way to do what you want, but it would involve hacking the code. If you are dead set on making it happen, you should do a search on the Joomla forums.
