    Hello,
    I am trying to figure out what to do so the browser knows to get fresh page from the server. Because right now when people re-visit our news site they are not seeing the updates unless they clear their own browser cache.

    I been looking at this meta tag:
    <meta http-equiv=”pragma” content=”no-cache” />

    Anyone familiar with that and how its used? OR any other ways to handle browser caching?

    thanks

    I am using j2.5 teline_iv, but that does not matter as this is pretty much general question.

    hi vipcory,

    I think this is depending on your browser cache setting, I am also using j2.5 teline_iv and I have no problem as mentioned, when I disabled the server cache it was always able to see the fresh contents after updating.
    You can also try to add a meta tag as mentioned
    <meta http-equiv=”pragma” content=”no-cache” />
    To see if it help.

    Also, would it be possible for you to pm me your teline url so I can compare our http headers on this site: http://redbot.org
    I just checked mine and there is no cache options set, it also sais INVALID ETAG form.

    you just go to your template back-end, at the Global tab you select the field “Enable Development Mode” to yes or the “Cache Mode” to Disable.

    This is the problem: You visit the site then you come back and visit the site again the next day. The BROWSER is NOT loading the page from the server, its loading from its own BROWSER cache.
    There HAS to be something that tells the browser that the page will expire in X hours, so load it from the SERVER not browser cache.

    This is especially important for a news site that multiple times a day. And this has nothing to do with joomla or t3 cache. This has to do with site telling the server when to load.

    i thought this would be done thru etag, but apparently not.

    Hi vipcory,

    Maybe the browser that you are using has a special cache setting, Did you try to check on other browsers on other computers?
    You can also check to see wheter or not your System – Cache is enabled. If it is the case, just simply disable it.
    Take a look at joomla cache documentation here for better understanding and preferences.

    Good luck, mate!

    Thank you, 1 last question, I just noticed that the plugin System-Cache is disabled, do you recommend that be enabled or disabled?
    for jateline_iv j2.5 with all other caches on.

    Hi vipcory,

    I think the System-Cache plugin should be disabled, you can try to turn off all other caches to see if that help 🙂
