Upgrading from Joomla 1.0 Teline 1.0 to Joomla 1.5 Teline 3v2
Using the joomla migrator,
When I do the SQL dump, all the Macintosh-specific charcters get turned into unknown characters
The Joomla migrator can’t read those characters, so errors out.
I spent 3 days running migrator, getting error lines, finding the back character, finding what it’s supposed to be, getting the numeric code for that character, and putting the numeric code in place of the unknown character.
And that was on a protoype in summer. We’ve added another 1000+ articles since then.
Is there an easier way to do this?
I’ve tried the joomla migrator, and even did a CSV export in phpMyAdmin to try an use this plugin.

November 16, 2010 at 6:03 pm #363029Have you tried the mtw migrator component instead? It does seem to work a lot better than the Joomla one.

I’m confused on how to use it. Do I install that to the old site or the new site? (They are installed on different servers- current site on campus, new site at Godaddy Center)

November 17, 2010 at 9:25 pm #363216It has been a long time since I used it so I cannot advise too much on its usage. It was the only component that I found worked and many people thought the same.
However, googling mtw migrator tutorial brings up many results such as this – http://people.joomla.org/videos/video/186-mtwMigrator+Tutorial.html?groupid=203

Thank You. That helped alot.
Next question- I wasnt around when we started using the Joomla 1.0 teline 1.0. Because we are using URL masking/modifying, how would I go about setting up SEF URL’s? I’ve tried doing it on the test site, and it doesn’t work.
