April 6, 2008 at 3:19 pm #127290Question . . . When searching for a particular function for one’s Joomla based website, the particular function/extension isn’t always readily found within the Joomla Extension Directory. However, often times a PHP script that produces the desired result can be found on a resource such as HotScripts or the like.
My question, therefore, is . . . can any PHP script be developed (or “bridged, if you will) into a Joomla compatible extension?

April 6, 2008 at 4:01 pm #244565It sure can, but there is many things to think about before you start up with a bridge or create a new extension.
Stability, cost, can an excicting extension be tweaked to perform what you want.TomC ModeratorTomC

See, that’s the thing . . . I’m not sure. Also, to do so, it would seem that it might take the same kind of time, effort and (in my case) cost to do so in relation to trying to commission the modification/bridging of another php script. For example, I am interested in a freelance component for Joomla. The only one I have been able to find within the Extension Directory is Joomlance. In reading the comments, it doesn’t appear that the component works as it’s supposed to – let alone compatible with J1.5+.
However, there are several php freelance scripts to be found on HotScripts, such as . . .

http://freelanceauction.eu/demo
http://www.scriptdemo.com/details.php?prod=phplance
So, I guess I’m curious as to the cost-benefit analysis of having a php script “converted” for Joomla compatibility versus wondering if the existing script (joomlance) will ever be improved upon for functionality.
I wonder what script Joomlancers.com uses.

Hi MiCCAS,
Do you have any idea whether Hung is considering offering that script for sale? If so, I am pretty sure it would be a popular one. Maybe you could mention it to him.See, that’s the thing . . . Whatever you do Tom, don’t waste your money on any astrasoft scripts. I bought the freelance script from them and it is far from fully featured.
The ones you are looking at look better though. I supose you could run the script in a wrapper and bridge the users with Jfusion.

Let us know how it goes. I am very interested in something like this.TomC ModeratorTomC

From what I understand Hung is the owner. I may be wrong though.

April 7, 2008 at 4:05 am #244633Well then, it would be very cool if Hung would either offer the freelance script as a component and/or produce/offer a freelance themed template. I mean, he’s already got the script and the modules created – all he needs to do is put them into a template.
Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t believe that any other template club offers such a template. JA would be leading the pack.
If he’s worried about competition, I would submit that there are a great many areas that could use such a script that have nothing to do with joomla issues or even php programming. Besides, Joomlancers.com has done well in establishing itself as the go-to place for Joomla related projects.
So Hung . . . Whataya think?
