Can I rename only the file or not?

Are you trying to increase security by hiding the administrator area? Simply renaming the directory will cause a lot of problems but this pluging might suit your needs.

if someone types yoursite.com/administrator they will get a 404 message. They have to add /your pass key to the end to see the admin login.

Thanks Phill. I am new to Joomla and this is a really great plugin that I hadn’t previously heard of. Have installed on my site and suggest that any body using Joomla does the same. Very simple to use and adds an extra layer of protection to your site, highly recommended!!
