May 4, 2009 at 3:27 pm #303459Well, here is my solution to what I wanted –> WIP LINK
As you can see, I modified the style a bit.See, with the “short description” under the product title, I can add some descriptive text (change the character limit within the code if I want), and then use the “Product Description” tab/space for more in-depth info, specs, custom html, whatever.
I’m thinking I may also try to figure out how to add another tab and insert Manufacturer information and/or Guarantee/Warranty information.
P.S.
(No need to comment on the temporary images right now – they’re only placeholders while I work on the actual advertisements and product images).myeco Friendmyeco

about the flypage is nice and attractive. hmm, according to your site is dealing with music equipment, so i think you need a NEW tab for the item specification. If you mix the specification in the product details, it will looks messy and need to scroll down.. If you have a new tab for product specification that is more easier to read by your shopper.
Anyway, just my opinion and suggestion, u make a great job.

The problem is, I am not sure how to input the custom information into a new tab. The way it is set up now, it calls on pre-determined content within VirtueMart. How can I set up a new tab so that I can enter custom information (like specifications). Unfortunately, I do not have quite the advanced skills to hack that deeply into VM to create the fields and relative PHP within the VM backend.I thought my solution for this – using the “short description” for the basic product description and then using the “Product Description” tab field for the specifications – would work. (I need to change the name of the “Product Description” tab to “Specifications”
Do you know of another way, perhaps?

i feel so sorry for you, i am not a coder… i am same as you. still studying how to fill in certain custom information into new tab, maybe Scotty can give us a hand, i looking for experts who can modify rgding this issue.
Tom,rgding your issue, if you have use VM random product module, the short desc of products will show out and making product alignment problem. this what i experienced before..
i wish can get two more new tab in the flypage.. but this need to hacking VM backend..this is out of my ability. Default product picture just showing 1 pic only… this is very limited, normally, one product had 3~4 pics.
2 new Tabs perhaps can input in the flypage:
1. Product Picture Gallery
2. Product Specificationthis website had fulfill what i need, but how to make it ??
Tom, are you friends with VM creator? i had post about some issues inside the VM forum, but no response at all….

Kevin . . . . Check out Powered By VirtueMart – they offer custom made VM themes they have created to make your category, flypages and checkout look a lot more professional and slick – INCLUDING one based on the NetShops.com model (which, ironically, I got them to create). In fact, it’s BECAUSE I suggested they create it that they gave me a 10% discount code for members here at JA to use – FORUM10.I know there is a way to code one (or another) tab to include “other photos.”
It’s a matter of looking through the VM code for the right parameter for the tab content to call upon.In fact, they just released a really cool new theme with awesome AJAX effects –> CLICK HERE

May 7, 2009 at 11:53 am #303919I’ve been following this thread and thought i’d have a go myself,
firstly i must stress that this is my first post in submitting script so please bear with me if it’s not 100%
right then to get the tabs to work in virturemart i did the following
go to your joomla template >> templates >> whatever >>index.php
(1)add this line <LINK REL=”stylesheet” TYPE=”text/css” MEDIA=”all” HREF=”http://www.mywebsite.co.uk/tab/tabs.css”>
(2) download the css from here http://www.co-lo.co.uk/tabs.zip
(3)then go to your virtuemart flypage you want to insert it in to example
components/com_virtuemart/themes/default/templates/product_details/flypage.tpl.php
and add this script to the bottom of the page
<?
class tabs {
var $name;
var $tabs;
var $active;
var $current;function __construct($name){
$this->name = $name;
}function start($name){
if (empty($this->active)){ $this->active = $name; }
$this->current = $name;
ob_start();
}function end(){
$this->tabs[$this->current] = ob_get_contents();
ob_end_clean();
}function run(){
if (count($this->tabs) > 0){
echo “<DIV CLASS=’tabs’>n”;
$jsClear = “”;
foreach($this->tabs as $tabname => $tabcontent){
$tabid = “tab_”.$this->name.”_$tabname”;
$contentid = “tabcontent_”.$this->name.”_$tabname”;
$jsClear .= “tdocument.getElementById(‘$tabid’).className = ‘tab_inactive’;n”;
$jsClear .= “tdocument.getElementById(‘$contentid’).style.display = ‘none’;n”;
}
echo “<script type=”text/javascript”>n”;
echo “function tab_”.$this->name.”(id){n”;
echo “$jsClear”;
echo “tdocument.getElementById(‘tab_”.$this->name.”_’+id).className = ‘tab_active’;n”;
echo “tdocument.getElementById(‘tabcontent_”.$this->name.”_’+id).style.display = ”;n”;
echo “}n”;
echo “</script>n”;
foreach($this->tabs as $tabname => $tabcontent){
$tabid = “tab_”.$this->name.”_$tabname”;
$contentid = “tabcontent_”.$this->name.”_$tabname”;
echo “<DIV CLASS='”;
if ($this->active == $tabname){ echo “tab_active”; }else{ echo “tab_inactive”; }
echo “‘ ID=’$tabid’ “;
echo “onClick=”tab_”.$this->name.”(‘$tabname’);”>$tabname</DIV>n”;
}
echo “<DIV STYLE=’float: left; clear:both;’></DIV>n”;
foreach($this->tabs as $tabname => $tabcontent){
$contentid = “tabcontent_”.$this->name.”_$tabname”;
echo “<DIV ID = ‘$contentid’ CLASS=’tab_content’ STYLE=’display: “;
if ($this->active == $tabname){ echo “block”; }else{ echo “none”; }
echo “;’>$tabcontent</DIV>n”;
}
echo “</DIV>n”;
echo “<DIV STYLE=’clear: both;’></DIV>n”;
}
}
}$tabs = new tabs(“example1”);
$tabs->start(“Discription”);
echo “This is tab number one.<br/>”;
echo “$product_description”;
$tabs->end();$tabs->start(“Customer Reviews”);
echo “This is tab number two.<br/>”;
echo “$product_reviews”;
$tabs->end();$tabs->start(“Related Products”);
echo “This is tab number three.<br/>”;
echo “$related_products”;
$tabs->end();$tabs->run();
?>
it should give you a basic tab layout that you should be able to modify to suit your need, i must stress please please please backup any scripts you are modifying
hope this helps someone also if it helps i’m using joomla 1.5.8 and virtuemart 1.1.2 and a working demo of this can been here

Hi infobuster,
Nice to meet you at here, this is our pleasure to welcome for our newcomer.Firstly, your concept and design is fantastic, however, i had follow the exactly the instruction as above stated, but fail to success transform it to TABs model.(screenshoot had attached)
But i notice that, the most Special of your flypage was your 3D flash pics display, that is very nice, can you open your source to us ??? and may i know how you took the 3D photo?
For my current need, i wish the 3D FLASH pics display system can be modify to 3D pics gallery, which can display 3~4 products pics, include the zoom function.
Another question for the 3D flash pics display, is it link/connect with VM backend ? if we can input more pics when we create a new product entry in VM, this is wonderful and perfect products display module.
I wish can obtain further support on this issue, Thanks in advance.

Kevin.C</blockquote>yes i’ve moved on to version 2 of the design already and can be seen here >>
although this uses ajax it still along the same line, and involves changing your template index.php header and your flypage, if the orginal version isn’t working for then make sure the links to the script file are correct
with regards to the 360 degree photography it’s done with flash, and uses about 32 images to create the full spin, the website i sent the link will have saucepans spinning the watch is ust for demo
i’ll see if i can post some scripts over the next couple of days
hope this kind of answers your question

Rgding the version 2, flypage is more clean and more emphasize on the product detail tab, this is an improve, great job.
Hmm, i had follow what the instuction of you, and altered the relevant part as suit for my situation. it still not working.the links to the script file are correct. i still cracking my head for the answer. Haiz, awaiting your good news for new flypage come out..
About the 360 degree photography is not suit for product display since it need 32 images to create full spin.. and it does not connect with VM backend.. thats very headache issue
so i think another option is making an image gallery which link/connect with VM backend for display product pics slide show and using the flash to manage it, is it possible???
Example website:
1 more thing, i found that, do you disable/remove the recently view product? My opinion is, that is an important function for remind people what they had view, and can give them a clue to trace back..Further, current VM recently view product is displayed by text link, this is not good for trigger people awareness and not aesthetic. Perhaps can use product image instead of text link. that was much more better. Anyone can give a hand on this ??

May 7, 2009 at 7:10 pm #303941Hey, check out this extension hack someone created for a tabbed product info – where you can actually create MORE tabs within the VM backend and it provides additional fields for you to enter in the content . . . . . .

Wow!!, marvelous, that is exactly what i want ! You drive me crazy, babe.:-*:-*
Hmm, how i can get a demo version, and i had a small question, why the guys official website is so simple(just a default template) and not really functional, and according the member discussion, it seems still got 3 major issues:confused:
1. CSS not cross-browser supporting, conflict in IE and FF
2. Joomfish seems do not had the relevant plugin for this new mod, = temporary cannot support multilingual until joomfish have certain development.
3. There is no forum support and any discussion with the author since September 01, 2008, 22:34:20 pm which is the last post by the author in the thread , development process cannot identify. I am afraid there are no tech support after buy it.
Another issues raise by myself. :confused:
1. Since this is a hack, assume the latest version of VM come out, do we get support on this mod if it get conflict or not functional anymore with the latest VM ??:((2. After sales support is always the major concern, but i cannot get contact with the author yet.
I cannot manage how to contact with the author to settle down all of this issues above, can you guide me ?
Thanks in advance!
