Does anyone know what folders/files need to be writable to enable the cache settings on a live site, locally there is now problem but live it will not work, i understand i will need to cmod a file or directoy, but which ones?

The settings for all of the template related stuff are stored in various ini and xml files in the templates directory. You shoild make sure the script can write to that directory and files it contains.

What directory? the actual template stored in the template directory or in the pluginssystemjat3 folder? when you want to change the joomla config you just need to make sure config.php is set to 777 or like, but the JAT3 has a different system, both in the template itself and in the pluginssystemjat3 folders.. i thought they might be just a global config file like in the root of joomla:((

The templates folder, not the plugin. For example templates>your_template>params.ini

There are other ini files and xml files used in the templates>your_template folders and sub directories that need to be writable by the scrip if you wish to make changes or add new profiles etc.
