Hi,
This is really bizarre. The file params.ini has the rights set to 555 when I go into my file manager and change the rights to 755 all is fine, the file shows ‘writable’ in the template editor. As soon as I change a few things such as the color scheme and ‘menu module’ I click apply and the file reverts to ‘unwritable’ and has rights of 555. The changes do not occur. I am running on Joomla 1.52 and I just downloaded the Ja Edenite template on Tuesday, whats up with this template I have never had problems like this.
Thanks

May 22, 2008 at 3:06 pm #250141Did you try to change this from your hosting account?
One other thing you can try is to enable the FTP layer in Joomla backend.May 22, 2008 at 3:12 pm #250143Hi,
Of course I changed it from my hosting account. It looks fine until I hit save or apply, then the template resets the permissions. I will try the FTP back end in Joomla..
Thanks
May 22, 2008 at 3:36 pm #250152Okay I tried using the Joomla FTP and could not get it too work (probably since my hosting service only allows sftp), but I also tried it with WinSCP and the same thing happens. I change the permissions to 755 and refresh to verify the file has been changed. Then I go into the template manager and it shows ‘writable’ as soon as I make a modification and hit ‘apply’ or ‘save’ the file is changed to 555 and is shown as unwritable? The template is doing this, What’s even weirder is that all of the other templates I have played with do not have any files with 555 permissions, they are all 644 or 755. So why is this installed with a 555 permission?
May 22, 2008 at 3:52 pm #250155Hi,
As a test I downloaded another of your templates the Ja Drimia’. Installed it and it works fine the permissions on the params.ini file is 644 like it should be. Just for grins I changed the params,ini (in the Ja Edenite template) to 644 and it shows writable in the template manager. As soon as I save it or apply it it changes back to 555…
Thanks
May 23, 2008 at 5:00 am #250214Hi,
I’m having the same problem. I’m trying the new 1.5 Joomla for the 1st time and it certainly works a lot differently than the old tried and true version. Can you help a newbie in how you got this to work. I need a little bit more detail in layman’s terms if you can. Not sure what you meant by changing the params.ini. Would I access that through FTP? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.May 23, 2008 at 1:51 pm #250300Hi fideli,
I will answer your question in a second but first an update on discussion with support and my tests… Support suggested I clear cookies – nope did not fix problem. I also cleared local cache, cache on the server and made sure the cache was turned off on Joomla, but I already knew this would not help since I installed another template and it worked fine. For grins I edited the params.ini file and guess what it contains the right values but the template is not reading them – that’s a bug in my book…
Now fideli if you get into your joomla administrator and goto Extensions –> Template Manager you should see the Ja Edenite template. Double click on the template name and you will go into the template editor. If you look to about the middle right of your screen you will see a list of parameters for your template. Right under the word ‘parameters’ you will see the path and file name for the template variables in this case it is ‘params.ini’.
Editing this file and changing rights can be done several ways. I use ‘WinSCP’ because it uses ‘sftp’ (as in secure FTP) most of the better hosting sites will require you to jump through some hoops (ie fax them a license or passport) before allowing the kind of access WinSCP gives you and if you don’t want to hassle with that most Hosting companies provide another method. If your hosting provider uses ‘Cpanel’ there is a file manager that comes with that (if its enabled) that will allow you to change rights and edit files. PLEASE BE WARNED YOU USE SUCH FILE MANAGERS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Damaging a system file or improperly setting rights may screw up your web site – do a back up before making any file changes. If you are not familiar with Linux there are 2 basic rights settings for WEB servers that work in most cases. Folders should have a setting of 755 and files should be 644 (don’t change these if you are unsure!) These numbers refer to Read/Write/Execute permissions for Owner/Group/Other, I won’t go into more detail here … This should be enough to get you started….
Hope This Helps
May 23, 2008 at 2:19 pm #250305Hi,
More info. It looks like only part of params.ini is being read. Here is what the file contains:
logoType=image
logoText=Zypath LLC
sloganText=Solutions for Small Business
ja_font=3
ja_screen=wide
ja_color=red
menutype=mainmenu
ja_menu=dropline
showComponent=1It looks like anything with a ‘ja’ in front of it appears to work (ie font, color, etc). The logoType, logoText and sloganText do not work and I could not find code referring to these variables (I did find code referring to ja_font, etc)
Thanks
