i have removed the demo files and continue to get the same msg

Please clean up until you have no errors. I can say exactly how many files / folders need to do. Because it’s depends on your side.
Or you can try by download images dir into your localhost and upload a fresh on ( from Joomla 1.7 install pack ).
After that everything will be fine. And you can check are you missing any images from old image dir and step by step upload it back.

this is obviously a problem with the template – is their a fix for this ?
what you are suggesting will take alot of time
