April 2, 2009 at 6:28 am #139853I’ve done a fresh install of 1.0 joomla quartz and can’t create a new menu item, every time I click to create a new menu item, it just comes up with a blank page. Please help as I cant proceed with the design without this.
Thanks.

April 2, 2009 at 6:49 am #299597Firstly, from a security point of view you really should edit your post and remove those logon and ftp details. It gives anyone access to your system and they could really do some nasty things.
Next, why with a new install are you using Joomla 1.0? Much better to use the latest 1.5 version as 1.0 is about to be made obsolete.
You install seems to be missing a few key files which can sometimes be a problem when uploading with your ftp package or sometimes can be a problem with the settings in your ftp package.
I suggest you download the Joomla 1.5 version of the template and install that instead.

April 2, 2009 at 6:50 am #299598stephaniepapy,
Never ever give your site access in open to anybody. Remove the access codes immediately. This is for your site and hostng space security.
One can not be so careless.
sorry for the harsh words.

April 2, 2009 at 8:02 am #299613Ok, sorry about that, I’m new to this and didn’t realize that it was posted for all to see. Anyway, I did try to install the quickstart 1.5 as well but I get a http 500 error every time I try to access the site when its online. In the offline mode, I get the front end login page of Joomla 1.5 but once logged in, same thing, error http 500.

Have you turned on sef from the joomla backend? if yes did you also rename the htaccess.txt to .htaccess in the joomla root?

April 2, 2009 at 8:28 am #299621Who is your host? It might be worth asking them about the 500 error as it is likely to be server related. Much better to get a working 1.5 up than an old 1.0.

Well, it couldn’t be my host’s problem as other JA templates work fine just facing a problem with the Quartz one, anyway, let me try to do what Arvind has recommended and seePhill ModeratorPhill

April 3, 2009 at 6:43 am #299787Yep check SEF.
A 500 error can be host related. I’m not blaming your host but they should be able to quickly tell you what the rest of the error says. This is often hidden depending on the way the server is set up. There could be a memory limit error an execution time error or a number of other things.

April 3, 2009 at 6:50 am #299788K guys, finally figured it out, what I was doing wrong was I was installing the sample data during the Joomla 1.5 installation, being form the old school of 1.0 and that’s what caused the error. But, surprisingly, it didn’t happen with JA Larix when installed with the sample data (Joomla 1.5) HHuummm?? Anyway, I once again thanks for all the great support.

April 3, 2009 at 7:01 am #299790Glad you got it sorted. Maybe the sample data was taking you over some memory limit. I’ve used this same template myself and have never experienced a problem with the sample data.
Good luck

Sorry bout that Phil, false alarm, it didnt work… as in, the template shows up but there’s no content there on the site and it wont let me install any new modules either.. a very strange problem, I’ve not turned on SEF so that’s not the issue..will rake my brains over it a little more and see, will also try to check with my host. Another one facing this problem ishttp://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/internal-server-500-errors/
Sorry about that.

Ok, you were right, it was an issue with the service provider and its been taken care of. Thanks to all once again -
