Hey all, I was replacing some JPGs in the slideshow module, when things started to go crazy. The slideshow started to hangup on pics and get stuck. In addition to that, the pages that I setup in the main menu to the left arent even working anymore. The pixels where 750×250. I think one time I accidently put a JPG in there that had 759×250, which I replaced. Could that cause something to
go wrong. Also, I’ve been naming the JPG’s the same as those that where in the Demo. Can replacing JPG’s in a folder cause the the whole template to go bad ?
By the way, I’m doing my work on a Mac/Safari/Transmit for FTP’ing.
My server is Rochen. I have CPanel but I havent used it much. Dont know what to do with it.
Thanks for all help

No

CPanel is your Control Panel for your whole hosting account, domain settings, server settings, etc.
October 24, 2008 at 12:41 pm #276865Scotty, what would cause my main menu pages not to function properly anymore, if I’m just replacing JPG’s.
Because I paid these 2 guys 200 bucks to go into the site and try and organize it. They swear that they havent done anything yet. But strangely, my main menu is acting up and obviously the 4 pic gets stuck in slideshow.
Ok thanks for help

October 24, 2008 at 2:06 pm #276871Don’t pay anyone money to fix your site before you use Joomlarts FREE Premium Email Support.
The links in the left menu are set up as Category Blog Layout links. This has NOTHING to do with virtumart, the shopping component you are using and is not a bug, or a flaw in Joomla. It is the way YOU have set them up. To set up product categories, as I think you tried to do there, you need to go into virtumart config.
As I said on the other thread… create a 5th .jpeg pic and that should fix your header problem. If it doesn’t then well cross that bridge when we come to it.
As you are unfamiliar with things like CPanel I presume you are a novice when it comes to Joomla, e-commerce, and website consturction in general. I think you’ve jumped off the deep end here a little. JA sell templates – not websites! There can be a huge amount of tweaking and modifying code to get the site just right for your needs.

October 24, 2008 at 9:28 pm #276882Yeah, your partly right on my experience. Although, I’ve had Joomla sites for the last few years. I’ve never really jumped in and started to study. Although, at this point, I have no choice. I REALLY believe in Joomla for many reasons. I just havent had time to get to it with work and life stuff. However Im going to start to do the tutorials.
Regarding my site. I canceled with those 2 guys and got back 100.00 out of 200.00.
Regarding the main menu, yeah I set those up. I know that they are arranged in Sections/Catagories/Articles. Only after that did I come to realize the VirtueMart aspect.
Your being very cool with your time and recommendations. I appreciate it alot. In time I’ll get this stuff.
I’ll try adding a 5th pics and see what that does with the slideshow.
But I cant fiqure why the main menu is acting up.
Lastly, I gave these guys my Admin password and server access. Should I change anything for security ?

October 25, 2008 at 10:43 am #276890What exactly do you want the main menu to be? Sunglasses, bikinis, scuba, etc, Do you want these to link to general ‘content’ or do you want these to link to shop products? If the answer is shop products then use virtumart to set up ‘categories’ and they should appear in the menu below with Laptops, Monitors, etc.
Lastly, I gave these guys my Admin password and server access. Should I change anything for security ?
NEVER EVER EVER give YOUR password to anyone to access your site!!! If you want to allow someone access to your site then set up a new administrator (You are super admin) with a new password. As it is at the moment these guys can lock you out of your own site. (I’m not saying they would, I’m just saying they can)
NEVER pay someone in full until the job is finished and you are satisfied with the result. That’s goes for anything in life 🙂
I see you have 5 images, although all the same :), set up in the slidshow now and it seems to be working fine.

October 26, 2008 at 2:55 pm #276967I think Im just going to start over. The template doesnt seem to work correctly anymore. I tried deleting the Section/Catagories/Articles that where linked to the main menu. They wouldnt even delete. Then I tried just clicking on any of the demo items to see if they still functioned, they didnt.
So I quess I have to start over. Thanks for all your help.
