It works fine in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, but no show in IE8 – just keeps trying to load.

Any ideas?

Now that I look at it. The JA Tabs module that is in the “left” position isn’t showing up either.

May be the problem from enabling the SEF jooma, now, you to go to the Global Configuration, and set options for:
Search Engine Friendly URLs Yes
Use Apache mod_rewrite Yes
Add suffix to URLs Yes (option)

and access your site root and rename htaccess.txt file to the “.htaccess” and check this issue again
