I currently have teline 2 loaded in my joomla, but id rather have kulanite for what im doing. Im trying to install it but it just freezes up and never installs. I tried to change the default to whatever the standard Joomla template is called and then install Kulanite but it wont install. I am using 1.5.3 Joomla, do i have to remove teline or something for this to work and if so how do I remove it?

no – you do not need to uninstall teline 2 in order to install another template (whether it be from JA or not).

if you want to remove teline 2 – all you have to do is go to the install / uninstall menu option and then from the list of modules / components / plugins / templates – select templates.

Select the template you want to uninstall and click on uninstall.

That should uninstall the template for you.
