    Hi
I have just installed a new site using joomla 1.7.3
I wanted to use the JA purity 11 these. However I am getting an error message when I try to install it. I can see the zipped folder has been
    uploaded to the server,

I uninstalled joomla and reinstalled it but the same thing happened.
    The error says

“The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mybedroomwall.co.uk and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Looks serious to me! Please can someone help?

While I can understand the “convenience factor” of uploading the entire zip file to the server and then trying to unzip/upload it from there . . . as it seems this method is causing you issues, might I suggest the alternative step-by-step process as outlined within THIS TUTORIAL[/url]?

Most whom I have heard from, who have utilized this method, generally report success.

Thank you for your reply. To install Joomla, I did unzip it, and upload all the files into my public_html folder. I proceeded as described in the tutorial, and that was all fine. My site is there, but I cannot install J A purity 11 I have used it on another site and want to use it again.
I have installed some plugins, and they loaded fine. Please can you advise what the problem might be .
    Thanks in advance.

    What about the following process (from http://docs.joomla.org/Installing_a_template) . . . . . .

Install via Admin Panel (packed template file)

Log into the back-end of your site (http://www.your-site.com/administrator/)
    Click on: Extensions -> Install/Uninstall

You see the page “Extension Manager”
From here you can install your Templates, Plugins, Modules, Components and Languages. You have three options:

    • Upload Package File – (select a package from your PC, upload and install it)
    • Install from Directory – (enter the path where the package is located on your server)
    • Install from URL – (enter the URL to the package)

Here, we choose the first method: Upload Package File
Select the package from your PC and click the button “Upload File & Install”

If the package contains no errors you are done and get a success message like the one below.

Install via FTP (unpacked template file)

Templates can also be installed via FTP without packaging them. Simply select the template folder on your PC and upload it to your server, using your favorite FTP software. Be sure you upload the template folder to the directory: /path_to_joomla/templates/ – where /path_to_joomla/ is the location of your Joomla! installation on the server. This method is mostly used when you have created a template yourself, and do not want to have to package it to install the template, or if you want to upload more than one template at once.

GREAT !!! . . . If this doesn’t work and/or you get another error message, be sure to post the error message here so we can investigate further together.

I have installed it in the same folder as the default templates. However it does not show in the backend of my site? It uploaded via ftp with no problems.

I see I have made an error. The folder i uploaded is jatc_purity_ii I see this has themes within it. I am now deleting it and will upload the theme to my template folder. I will report back after that.

I am a little confused. I am not sure exactly what the above folder is? It looks like a whole joomla installation?

OK I have uploaded the folder ja_purity_ii in the folder public_html/templates. It is not showing up in the backend of my site?

Thank you, that has sorted the installation.
However if I set it as my default, I get the following message

Fatal error: Class ‘JParameter’ not found in /home/p01mybe/public_html/templates/ja_purity_ii/libs/ja.template.helper.php on line 410

so I am still not able to use it. The default theme beez worked perfectly. I may have to use that, but I would like to understand what is going wrong here?

I never did solve this problem, and I now have another new site. It is a subdomain of my own site where I used JA Purity 11. So I want to replicate the main site and use this theme.
I uploaded the theme via ftp to my server, into the templates folder, but it does not show up at the back end of my site.
    Please can someone advise?
    Many thanks

Here is another video tutorial for installing templates via the Extension Manager – perhaps this may assist further . . .
