    Rasite home page is unuseable because it arbitrarily holds dead space in an undefined area.

    What I have tried so far:
    – created “home-layout” without middle blocks
    – created “home-profle” using “home-layout”
    – set “Hide Main content block” to “Yes” in “home-profile”
    – assigned “home-profile” to “home page”

    Contents of “home-layout”:
    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?>
    <layout name=”desktop”>
    <!–Extra css load for this layout–>
    <stylesheets>
    </stylesheets>
    <blocks name=”top” style=”xhtml”>
    <block name=”absolute” type=”modules” style=”raw”>absolute</block>
    <block name=”top-panel” type=”modules” style=”raw” main-inner=”1″>top-panel</block>
    <block name=”mainnav” type=”mainnav” main-inner=”1″></block>
    <block name=”header” type=”header” main-inner=”1″></block>
    <block name=”cpanel” type=”usertools/cpanel”></block>
    <block name=”topsl” specialwidth=”30″ special=”right” type=”spotlight-top” >user1,user2,user3</block>
    </blocks>

    <blocks name=”bottom” style=”xhtml”>
    <block name=”botsl” type=”spotlight” style=”JArounded” >user6,user7,user8,user9</block>
    <block name=”footer” type=”footer” ></block>
    </blocks>
    </layout>

    No matter what I try however the resulting display includes dead space even though no content as shown in the image.

    This despite removing the entire blocks for “middle” and “bot”.

    Thank you in advance for helping to resolve this critical issue.

    Hi

    I I did some tests with this layout
    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?>
    <layout name=”desktop”>
    <!–Extra css load for this layout–>
    <stylesheets>
    </stylesheets>
    <blocks name=”top” style=”xhtml”>
    <block name=”absolute” type=”modules” style=”raw”>absolute</block>
    <block name=”top-panel” type=”modules” style=”raw” main-inner=”1″>top-panel</block>
    <block name=”mainnav” type=”mainnav” main-inner=”1″></block>
    <block name=”header” type=”header” main-inner=”1″></block>
    <block name=”cpanel” type=”usertools/cpanel”></block>
    <block name=”topsl” specialwidth=”30″ special=”right” type=”spotlight-top” >user1,user2,user3</block>
    <block name=”botsl” type=”spotlight” style=”JArounded” >user6,user7,user8,user9</block>
    <block name=”footer” type=”footer” ></block>
    </blocks>
    </layout>

    This layout is only for the home page and it seems to works fine

    For all the other pages i have assigned the default layout

    I have disabled the Home page in the right and left modules menu assignments

    this could be a solution for your needs ?

    Pavit,

    Thank you for your timely response.

    I actually cut and pasted your layout and applied it to my home page using the home-profile method described originally and, sadly, it produced the result you see in the image attached.

    I did provide a login account for Joomlart if you want to take a look.

    Sorry that did not work for me.
