When I write an article and hit enter to go to the next line, it double-spaces. This is not good for writing articles in my opinion.
How can I change this to single spacing instead? I’ll double space if and when I want to.
Respectfully,

January 18, 2009 at 10:18 pm #286994I think it is the same as you can adjust the settings in your desktop word application. You can set the space between lines in the configuration for the editor. But I also do not know where exactly.
Since the sample texts are different than when creating a new one, there must be some configs to do so:
As example, when you look at the sample texts in the templates and edit those to your own content you will most likely have no double spaces between lines. At least I have that mostly this way when I simply change the text to my text. Hitting enter in one line then results in being in the next line without another line between.
Maybe you should visit Joomla.org and the forum or the f.a.qs to get some overview of the functions of TinyMCE or you install another text editor and read the manuals of those too.

January 19, 2009 at 12:29 am #287017OK I haven’t a clue what Wooh is rambling about but here is the answer to your question….
When you hit enter to start a new line what you are actually doing (in Tiny MCE and Dreamweaver) is placing a <p> tag in the html. <p> is used to start a new paragraph and is a ‘Block Element‘ as are <div>, <h1>, <table>, and a few others. These elements are blocks as opposed to ‘inline‘ elements because there is automatically a pagebreak added before and after them.
If you want to ‘return’ the text to the next line without a space you would use the <br /> (break) tag.
To do this in TinyMCE (and Dreamweaver) hold SHIFT and click ENTER and this will add a <br /> to the html instead of a <p> tag.
You can reverse this setting by configuring the ‘New Lines’ setting in TinyMCE in the Plugins manager.

January 19, 2009 at 12:33 am #287018Thanks Scotty,
That’s exactly what I do in my journal but trying to explain that concept to a few customers is not as easy. One of our customers struggles with computers and is lucky to turn on her system. 😉 I need an easier and more permanent solution for her. Her ONLY complaint with Joomla has been the fact that her articles are double spacing.scotty Friendscotty

January 19, 2009 at 12:40 am #287019Then your options are to tell her to use Shift+Enter to go to next line OR… you can swap the settings in the TinyMCE config.
If you find line spacing within paragraphs is too big then adjust the line-height: attribute within your .css

January 19, 2009 at 2:53 am #287027Nice to see the thread solved…still should Mr. Scotty read and understand that I refer to that answer, but as I did not know the exact answer and I said that….in clear words. You would save a lot of time when not talking about or referring to me but only about the topic, or do you need that for your self confidence, partner…got cha…Ta, Ta…:) I also “wonder” why he always talks to some “whoo” or “wooh”, or “whooo”. Is that some psychological issue that you have to do this, I know that type of behaviour from preschool, sorry to say.
