The Top Menu by default is linked to the Mainmenu. (see picture).

Where can I change the menu which is linked to the TopMenu??

I had same problem and I suppose I found solution
Just deactivate mainmenu from modules. It stop the left menu but top menu will work.
Then create a new menu and put it on the left module
