Suppose after doing fresh installation of quickstart, I want to change the template (No DATA), what are the steps. I do not want any backup. How do I reinstall another quickstart.

If you want to use another quickstart package then you will need to do a fresh install and you will lose all your previous unbacked-up data as you cannot install one quickstart over the other. If you wish to keep the content of your site then you can simply install another template on its own. It really depends on your needs as to which is better.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Jason.

    Hi joomlagt,

Just in case you need it, here is a link to a simple how to, showing step by step how to install a new template. Hope this helps you.

Sorry, I forgot to include the link. Here it is:

Since I have the template installedt, first should I delete all the old template files.

No you should not delete the old template files first. You don’t even need to delete them after you install the new one. But you do need to go to Extensions/Templates and select the new template and make it the default template. Then refresh the site and the new template will be the one in use.

    Hope this works out.

For me the problem comes up, that I have by now maybe 10 templates plus the default Joomla ones in my admin. Before I simply uninstalled some, that could be uninstalled, I still have the mentioned 10 left. I want to keep my backend clean and not having like all the templates I only tested, still in my backend. But the problem comes up that I get error messages for most of the templates when trying to uninstall those, some promptly get removed, the majority still hangs unused in my admin. Also to remove them one by one does not work, I simply always get error messages that the files could not be deleted. The only way to go now, is to delete those templates manually via FTP and probably to do some fine work with removing all entries that still may show up in the administrator files of the system that the uninstall function would have removed. When there are some…;)

But then the module position will change.

Use the quickstart for the template you want and not doing a fresh install of one and then taking another one, the module positions are always varying, it will always look like unsorted when you simply change the template. You have to set all modules new, this is usual. When you use a non Joomlart template too, there is no way around. Unless you have 2 templates with the exact same layout and module positions like JA Sanidine 1 and 2…
