December 16, 2010 at 6:55 am #157508We are working on the final modifications of a news site based on T iii v1.
What would be involved in chaning over to T iii v2?Can the styling be automatically applied?
Do we have to start from scratch?
Does v2 offer more speed and stability? Can someone please give us a walk-through to get this updated?
And is there a case study I can look at or read?
Thank you.kimberley Friendkimberley

Right! But it seems there is nobody home at joomlArt! It is an obvious vital bit of information when there is a
new version, right? Hopefully we will find someone with some experience with this issue that will share some wisdom!Otherwise, why do they bother to revise the templates? They are meant to be USED, not just collected!
So, as much as we love the “improvements” until we can find answers to these straightforward questions, I think we are going to stick to v1 even though it is clunky and slow loading.Hopefully someone will advise us!

December 19, 2010 at 10:53 pm #367622Please read the following post from Arvind where he explains all you need to know. If you do try and upgrade please make a bakup of your site and do the work either in some spare webspace or on localhost as it is more than just a simple template replacement.

THANKS PHIL! Have you done it yourself? Do you have a T iii v2 site I could see?
If so, do you think there are advantages?
What would they be if I may ask?Again thanks so much.

December 20, 2010 at 7:38 am #367690I don’t use the Teline series so have never tried. If I needed to upgrade I would make a copy of my live site on my desktop and work on it there. Doing that is an easy task with Akeeba backup and Wamp. 15 minutes and I would have a complete copy of my live site ready to play with to my hearts content.
V2 has a lot of advantages. It is faster with a lot of new back end features but whether you upgrade is up to you. I am guessing that the upgrade path from V2 to the forthcoming Joomla 1.6 will be easier but until it is release it will be hard to say.On a template level upgrading from v2 should be easier but Joomla 1.6 does away with the Section/Category system so there may be other issues which I have yet to see.

December 23, 2010 at 12:16 am #368206How did you install? From a quickstart or overwriting an existing install. Without seeing first hand it is going to be very hard to diagnose your problem. It does sound like something has not uploaded correctly or a file is corrupt.

December 23, 2010 at 12:36 am #368209Did it work before you added articles? When did it go wrong? If you installed from the quickstart and cannot add any articles how do you have any articles other than the ones included in the quickstart?

Ah yes, maybe that was wrong for me to try to do… I used “Content Export” module to export articles and sections and categories from my on line v1 site, then imported them into v2 on localhost with the same extension. (but it had to run in “Legacy” mode.
Could that be the problem? If so, how would you get the articles, etc, from the live site?
And what abot the Logo question?

December 23, 2010 at 1:23 am #368212Hi Filmlover7,
check out the attached image at the end of this post
I am using Teline iii v1 at present and I am planning on moving to teline iii v2 once its template for Joomla! 1.6 is available.
This is what I would have done and plan to do :
1- Backup your site entirely
2- Go to Joomla Extensions Directory and download this extension: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/migration-a-conversion/joomla-migration/4054
(You would need to activate the legacy plugin for it to work. After you finish with this component, you can disable the legacy again as it would not affect its fonctionality.)
3- Go to your current site and make PrintScreen all your modules and plugins and also extensions, so you know what you have installed in your current version.
4- Enable the legacy mode and Install the above extension (Export Content). Once installed sucessfully, then go to Components > Export Content > then choose how you would like to export; by Sections or by Content items. (Exporting the sections would give you all the Sections + Categories + Articles, whereas exporting jus the static content items would only give you those items. I would export by Sections). Once you have clicked on your choice, then select the items you would like to export. If you have selected the Sections, you would only chose the few sections you have to export.
5 – Follow the image I have attached here for you to see what to expect. I have numbered the step to follow, so just follow each step accordingly.
Once you have reached step 8, then make your choice on how you would like to insert the imported content. Then select what to insert and click on INSERT (near the top right hand side).
All your (Sections, Categs and Articles if you have selected to compile by section) content should be there.
Now go to your menu manager adn do the rest.
Once you have finished all that, just uninstall the Export Content and Imported Content components as usual and do not forget to disable the legacy mode if you do not need it enabled.
Finally, if you use this method, please send your feedback.
I hope it works for you.
See attached image.

December 23, 2010 at 1:51 am #368214Well,
The demo page that came in worked, but I did not go to the admin to try to add articles. The first thing I did was install the Content Export module and then import the articles from the live site, so I don’t know if the Modules of v2 worked.
?
What do you think is going on? And what is the remedy?

December 23, 2010 at 4:05 am #368236Ok, I did a fresh Quickstart Install. All the parts seem to work now!!! 😀 Yeah!
But the questions remain:
1. How can I get my articles into the new v2?2. How can I find out what Extensions / Components will not break Teline iii v2? I was using JCE editor before. Will it work on this Framework? What are the handiest Extensions to use in your opinion?
3. And back to my original challenge of setting up my Sections with different logos! Do we do it the same way as v1 – ie. with mod-logo1, etc.
THANKS SO MUCH,
