I have tried to follow the instructions in the user guide i.e. opened the index.php file to change the menu type but there is no line in the index.php file to do this.

Find that line and change the =4 into what ever menu you want

$ja_menutype = 4
; // 1: Split Menu; 2: Son of Suckerfish Dropdown Menu; 3: Transmenu; 4: Moomenu

I don’t have that in the index.php file – that is the problem. I have gone through it line by line and also carried out a search. It is not in the file!

Did you open the index.php from the template folder or from joomla root?
It should be /templates/ja_mageia/index.php

If you’re using the J1.5 version you need the params.ini file……
