Hello,
Is it possible to change the /templates/ path to be something like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/themes/ja_social

instead of the default path:
http://www.yoursite.com/templates/ja_social

It would be best answered in the joomla.org forums. Its the default function of joomla and thats how it and other components searches for the default template and render the output.

None at all. In my opinion apart from it being a lot of work to start with whenever you update your Joomla install you would have to do that work over again. There are quite a few places where /templates is referenced so it is not a menial task.
