I am having trouble choosing a forum… It seems that when I save the forums in the backend they don’t seem to stick. And also the workflow buttons on left are not working either…

Could you tell me which forum extension you are using. Are you running the latest update of Joomla?

If you are still deciding which forum app to use I strongly suggest Agora, It is pretty easy to use and has a ton of themes that you can use to match your existing theme.

Please let me know about the other questions

I think you’ll find that most people are leaving IE6 behind. Even Google will not be supporting it in its new iterations.
While I myself have not made the switch to IE8, (current model is way too heavy) I think you’ll find a great many of your users are working in IE7
Do you have a lot of older (over 60) viewers? Is your content geared towards that arena?
