I really like phpmydirectory (http://www.phpmydirectory.com). I THINK they may have a joomla bridge too, but not sure, and it’s also not free, but it’s a really good application from my experience. Also good support on their product which is always important to me!!

I have also seen joomla ext mos tree or something like that you might check on the joomla extension site.

I Use SOBI2 for a local business guide. It’s free and has a good support community. It looks a little ugly ‘out of the box’ but it’s very easy and straight forward to customise.
