Is there a way to install this extension to a website that is not running any other joomla templates or products?

I have been going through mod_ja_collapsedmodules.php all day today trying to figure out how to make this work and have had nothing but failure. The file is not documented enough for me to figure out where all the variables are coming from and what they are expecting.

Judging by how everything works as I understand it right now this extension should be able to work with out any other product.

The reason for this is I want to build a website where I understand all the code and with a template, if something does not work the way it should or if something needs to be moved I would have to search for a while to find out where that is and understand how to move it, when all I really want is the collapsible modules

I am self taught i all my coding so I am sure there is just some key element that I am missing that will make everything click and working.
