I want to change the outside left/right background to a color. I don’t want to change the css body, but just outside the modules to the left and right.

Like this:

Dear tfoster!

Here is the solution to resolve this issue:
Please add the following css into the template.css file:

#ja-mainwrapper {
background:none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;
margin:0 auto;
width:960px;
}

2) and try to find css in the templete.css file:

body {
color: #5A5A5A;
background: #FFFFFF;
font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
line-height: 1.5;
}

and replace:

body {
color: #5A5A5A;
background: red;
font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
line-height: 1.5;
}

The example you gave is of JA Antares. The link in the Mod area is for JA Helio. Please confirm which template you are using and update the link accordingly. If you wish to modify JA Helio in such way, let me know, will move the thread to JA helio Forum.
