Having lots of options to choose from by way of colours etc to begin with is really great.
But having now decided on the combination I want I’m looking to speed things up.

I have the following CSS files

    /css/colors/movie.css
    /css/ie6.php
    /css/ie8.css
    /css/ja.slideshow.css
    /css/template.css
    /css/typo.css
    /ja_menus/ja_cssmenu/ja.cssmenu.css

Combining them into one and then compressing it will make a huge difference

I’ve already compressed the .js files but by removing calling 6 css files would speed things up heaps.

Anyone completed this task with any success and like to share?

Combining CSS files can be difficult, as it needs many edits to correct the paths. However, you can call mutiple css files (originating from same folder) with one command. For details you can have a look at this thread.

Back up your files before making changes.

Also you can have a look at the various other options available on joomla extension directory >> http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/cache

Some of the component though needs the joomla 1.5 site to be strictly native. If trying with legacy on >> some component can break the whole site.

If you are running your Joomla 1.5 in NATIVE mode then you can try http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/cache/7350/details . This works great, if it doesn’t you can just enable css compression and it should be fine. JS compression sometimes breaks the layout.

    Thanks drarvindc for your input

I’m running JA Zinc and I’ve tried Plugin CssJsCompress but when using IE, jaslideshow is rendered totally useless

It certainly makes the site absolutely lightening fast … even excluding jaslideshow from the module it still doesn’t work.

    No idea why <shrug>

Hadn’t thought of your other option of reducing http requests such as ….

    <link rel=”stylesheet” href=”http://www.uniriot.org/uniriotII/templates/ja_teline_ii/css/editor.css,template.css,ja.news.css” type=”text/css” />

    Will try that.

That’s why i said in my earlier post, that many of these available component can break the layouts and if instructions not followed, can even break a site permanently. Use them with caution. Did you try with just css compression in the backend? Generally its the compression of JS that breaks the layout of the site.
