January 13, 2010 at 4:58 am #147614Hello,
I have seen the Alpha version of Joomla 1.6 and many new features are to be implemented when it comes out (hopefully in this 1st Qauter).
I am just wondering… would JA templates be straight away compatible with the new J!?
Also, I am thinking about setting up a new website but am hesitating… kind of trying to wait for J!1.6 to come out and install once and for all… just a way to avoid these terrible upgrades or updates. Is it worth waiting for the Stable version or is there an easier way to upgrade/update the site once 1.6 is out?
What advice would you have for these 2 queries?

January 13, 2010 at 5:09 am #329159Hi,
I wouldn’t wait for 1.6 as it will probably be a long time before it’s stable enough for a live site. There will be a series of beta’s and RC’s to come yet I would have thought.
I’d start now and if there are any changes needed for the templates to be 1.6 compatible I’m sure JoomlArt will keep on top of it and make it as pain free as possible.
Cheers,
Jason.

January 13, 2010 at 5:33 am #329161JA is fully aware of the J 1.6 and is closely following its development. JA will release 1.6 demo template in the coming months and all the current templates will be upgraded for 1.6 platform, once the stable release is announced.

January 13, 2010 at 5:34 pm #329232would it be easier to upgrade to J!1.6 from a JA 1.5 template? Considering the customisations made?

January 13, 2010 at 7:22 pm #329240this would be difficult to answer at this stage.
The file system and code would be different and i presume the legacy will not be working. So the J 1.5 templates with or without customization will work? Lets see how much back support J 1.6 has for 1.5.
we need to give time to J 1.6 to mature.

January 13, 2010 at 10:57 pm #3292481.6 is less of a jump than 1,5 was from 1.0 but there are many changes in the pipeline and as Arvind states, until nearer the release of 1.6 it will be hard to determine what will need changing. I can certainly see that some of the template overrides and extensions will need work. These should be relatively simple but there are a lot of templates and extensions in the JA portfolio so it will end up quite a task.
