May 24, 2007 at 9:27 am #120430Hi,
I was reading up on some posts with regards to speeding up my website
linkand I was wondering if it would be possible to get precompressed Javascripts for teline.
This would be especially useful for non tech savvy users like me as we avoid the hassle of debugging the compressed files etc.Would this be possible? Or I would appreciate it if someone who has already gone through the process could send me a copy 🙂
Regards.

I really don’t think it would make a lot of difference, really There are other ways to speed up sites such as each page must be below a certain size, best advise I give to ppl is with any graphic, make sure you make the graphic the size you want it to display first rather than let the browser resize on the fly, I’ve seen happy snaps 2 mb in size 4000×4000 ish displayed at 400×400 etc you get what i mean
There are accelerators out there PM Instantinlaw, Bill found one that worked, didn’t destroy the site and actually made a difference

May 26, 2007 at 9:26 am #220887Hi
I thought I heard my name!
Yes I highly recommend the FREE Page Cache component. It does not matter (almost) how large your image file sizes are, or how much content needs to load, this one makes your site Zoom.
And ShannonN is correct, it didn’t mess the site up either!
Just make sure you read the configuration instructions.Oh, and his site discusses other ways to speed your site up.

On JED you can get tons of compression plugin.
But it’s not really for all times. Specially w/ javascript. It could make conflict.
In some case, i suggest to do it manually .
#1: Get list of javascripts included on site
#2: Use one of these online compress site to compress scripts
http://javascriptcompressor.com/
http://jscompress.com/
#3: Save backCheck if have trouble or not and go with next file.
Thank you

When the post was made in 2007 there were few options for speeding up the load time of a Joomla site. Joomla has come a long way since 2007 and yes, there are now quite a few plugins on the JED. I agree that compressing javascripts can cause problems, but any decent plugin will include the option to exclude certain, or all javascripts. Plugins help save time and do things for people who don’t have the time, or can’t do it manually. I’m glad you have the time to be able to do it manually and if anyone else has the extra time, it is probably a good idea to do it manually. For everyone else, save some time and go with the plugins and exclude the parts of the javascripts that cause problems. 😉 -
