I have set- up a basic e-mail contact form and have tried multiple test e-mails without any luck.

Are there bugs in this template with the contact form or am I missing something?

Do I need to adjust the mail settings in global configuration?

No there are no bugs that I know of. Did you use the quickstart version? are you using 1.5.8?

    here is my site:

If you click the lessons tab you will see the form. Looks great! 🙂

Hi, you look great at the piano. I play some too, but not that much.

Anyway. I tried sending something from your site, to you, with a copy to me, but nothing came to me either. Then I tried it from a site I’ve done, also using Fagus, http://www.jonas-christy.com and it worked.

The menu Lessons, should be using Contacts component. Did you open the component and fill in the details, first making a category and then filling in the details for the Contact, you, including your email address.

If you have not done that, that will probably do the trick. Let me know if it works.

And good luck with the music!

If you are using 1.5.6 I would suggest that you upgrade to the latest 1.5.8. The reason they have updates is for sucurity issues as well as bugd that get ironed out. I try to upgrade as soon as the new one comes out, adn feel a lot safer that way. But of course, back up first is a good thing to do

I will upgarde to 1.5.8. I have done all the other basic things to set-up the component…

On the jonas-christy site, how do you have the global configuration set under “server” for “mail settings”?

Are there any other settings I can adjust that may affect mailing?

I’m not to much of a fan of the stock contact form I prefer qcontacts
    http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,4811/Itemid,35/

The standard mail setting should work but it may depend on your host. I would check that mail get sent in general. You can go into global configuration (system) allow user registration Yes, new user account activation set to yes.

Then sign up to your site just as a user would and see if you recieve the user account activation email. (make sure you check your spam mail folder)

If you do not get anymail at that point you probably have to check whether phpmail function will work on your server. Might try going to top menu help/system info phpinformation. I think the mail information should be in there

If you can’t send email via php you may have to setup the smtp settings under global config/mail settings. This information should of been provided by your hosting company.

Least that’s my best guess I’m no expert, I’m sure someone around here knows an easier way.

One of my sites had a problem using the php mail function something weird with their server, so I set the config to use smtp (fill in smtp info from their mail server). Also some servers won’t let you use an “outside” email (meaning an email outside that domain – so if your site is http://www.site.com it wont’ let you use an email like joeblow@othersite.com)

Not sure if this helips. I too like to use a forms component. I use Chronoforms. It’s free and the support on their forum is good!

N1 nefar! I use chronoforms too (example here… http://www.commercialsinks.ie/contact-us) but they are a little complicated to set up. I hadn’t heard of qcontacts until now and after reading the reviews it sounds like a piece of cake to set up.

Yes, that q contacts does look easy but with chronoforms you can do many more forms too if you ever want to. Your form is nice looking, Scotty.

Yes, when I was looking for contact forms I ran across the chronoforms as well. The only reason I didn’t go with it was I just needed something user friendly for the site I’m working on. Love that blue on your site there Scotty.

    Hi.

    I have
    Mailer PHP Mail Function
    Mail from
    From Name
    Sendmail Path /usr/sbin/sendmail
    SMTP Authentication No

But maybe you should try some of the other contact forms. They might be better.

Not sure if this will help but I found the answer to part of my problem here: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=272547

Although contact form now works it still won’t send copy of message to sender – any help from anyone would be appreciated.
