October 16, 2009 at 7:41 pm #145278Is there a way to specify which articles, say, by article ID number, that are displayed in the JA News FrontPage Module? Article order in Article Manager isn’t working, nor has changing publish dates to make article “newer” or “newest.” Using latest Teline III 1.3 quick install on local test server.

October 20, 2009 at 9:22 pm #321113I think it could be spelled out more clearly in the users guide exactly how this template works. If you want to do any customization on your homepage beyond the demo content, I found (through much trial and error and forum digging) you need to basically deactivate the mainmenu/home item as discussed in this sticky.
How do you assign a module to only appear on the front page? For this template, you have to edit the module and go to Menu Assignment (yes, confusing, but things are assigned to PAGES by assigning them to the MENU that ultimately points to that page). “Magazine” is the “main” menu for this template. The modules you want to appear ONLY on your home (front) page (like ja news frontpage and ja news2) have to be assigned by ticking radio item “Select Menu Item(s) from the List” and under “Magazine” highlight “Home,” making sure “Home” is the only thing highlighted.
To answer my original question, there is no way in the JA FrontPage module itself to select and order individual articles to appear in it. However, selecting and order the articles appearing in JA News FrontPage, actually makes some sense, but I hadn’t thought of it, having been blinded by the counter-intuitiveness of everything else so far: Simply open the article manager, sort by the Front Page column, make sure the four or five or six articles you want to appear in the module are the ONLY ones in your list having a green check by them. Then go to Front Page Manager and those (and only those) articles you checked in the last step should appear. Here is where you set the order as they will then appear in your JA News FrontPage module on your home page.
I still think it would be infinitely more responsible to write the module so that there is a list box, as in Ja News2 with section and category id’s, where you could enter article id numbers in the order you want them to appear and be done with it. But since I can’t write PHP…
