I’ve included screen shots.

I have the parameters set to 1 column and there is nothing in the right or left columns. But the content still is not expanding to fill the page.

do I have to edit the template to get this to work?

Double check that you dont have any modules published in user5,left and right module positions. Extensions> Modules Manager in the backend
