Hi
I am having some serious trouble getting JA news and JA news FP to look tidy. What I want is to set an image size that is used in all stories in JA news and JA news FP. Have tried all settings in JA news module but no luck. If I set a fixed image height the width is scaled as well.
I want to set a size, e.g. 505×200 in FP module, and in this window I want to display whatever part of the image that I choose. Then, when the user clicks on the story and goes to the article, he should see the whole image, e.g. 505×800.
How do I do that? I am using the JA news modules that came with the JA Rutile template.
Attaching screen dump…
Thanks…

For this case, you must change the size of image, which you want to change the size because the system will calculate the size of image with your configuration and change to the appropriate size.
March 10, 2009 at 7:36 am #295140Thanks. If I understand you correctly this is NOT possible. I can crop an image in e.g. Photoshop for use in JA News, but then I won’t be able to show the full image in the article itself. Is this correct?
If yes, JA News is of little use to me. Several articles need to be uploaded weekly and the work flow should be as easy as possible. Also, it is vital that the Front Page looks neat and tidy while the system is still able to show the full image in the article.
Can you direct me to some other news module that will let me do what i am trying to do?
Thanks again,

I find it hard to understand exactly what the answer is. Could you try to rephrase it? I understand English must be hard if you’re Vietnamese but I really neeed to understand what you are saying.

March 10, 2009 at 3:07 pm #295237Hi kromudh
It’s marked as ‘answered’ because you’ve had an ‘official’ response from JA staff.
If they manage to fix the problem, it will then be marked ‘solved’, however, ‘answered’ generally means not solved!
I like your idea, but I’m not sure this is possible in JA News. I was wondering if you could split the image into two … the first one (ie, the ‘cropped’ image) would be pulled to the front page, and then in the article, just load both images (the ‘bit’ on the front page and the rest) directly above and below each other to make the full image?
Not sure if that would even work as I’ve not tried it. Mind you, as you say, the workload would be pretty horrific!
I’m sorry I can’t help further.
ChrisMarch 10, 2009 at 3:47 pm #295242Hi Chris
Thanks for your reply. And yes! Loads of news sites work this way. Loads of benefits:
1. You only need to upload one picture.
2. The user gets a “teaser” on the front page.
3. Front page remains nice and tidy regardless of the various formats of the full pictures.
4. Full picture is diplayed along with full article. Makes sense.Must be a module/component that can do it. On Facebook you can even do it live (when you adjust the miniature version of your profile image to fit the square thumbnail).
Will start to look around…
Thanks again,

March 10, 2009 at 3:51 pm #295243Hi Anders
Thanks for that. If you manage to find a module/component that does the job and can bolt onto a JA template, please report back and let me know!
Many Thanks
ChrisMarch 10, 2009 at 3:55 pm #295244Will do.
If Joomlart has anything to add, e.g. could you make this possible in JA News, feel free to jump in…
Anders
